About The Team: SRUC Veterinary Services provides disease surveillance and analytical testing via our Veterinary and Analytical Laboratory and our network of disease surveillance hubs situated throughout Scotland. We provide national veterinary disease surveillance for the Scottish Government and collaborate with APHA to support statutory disease control schemes. Our Veterinary Services team are experts in animal disease diagnosis, and we process over one million animal and material samples each year. Close links with research and development activities within SRUC and in several other academic and research institutions ensure that our UK, EU and international clients benefit from practical support coupled with expert scientific advice. Our suite of services supports clients like vets, farmers and pharmaceutical companies by providing diagnostic testing for farm livestock and companion animals, as well as livestock health schemes, livestock health planning, veterinary CPD courses and external quality assessment schemes.

The Opportunity: We are looking for a proactive and organised Technician to join our team, supporting the delivery of high-quality laboratory and health scheme services. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has excellent attention to detail, and thrives on helping others succeed.

Key elements of this role include:

  • Supervising Band 7 team members, ensuring tasks are completed effectively and in line with service standards
  • Leading on designated work areas, taking ownership of processes and driving continuous improvement
  • Supporting Band 5 staff with prioritising workload and allocating tasks appropriately

You will contribute to wider team activities by:

  • Unpacking, prioritising, and distributing incoming sample submissions
  • Manual processing and labelling of veterinary samples
  • Managing and responding to all incoming internal and external queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Contacting veterinary practices and farm clients to resolve queries
  • Registering, tracking, and updating submission samples and results using LIMS and/or Health Scheme databases
  • Processing, organising, managing, and analysing data using Excel
  • Providing administrative support to staff within health schemes
  • Monitoring client accounts for outstanding debt, working closely with Finance to address issues promptly
  • Ensuring sample integrity through proper aliquoting and labelling
  • Developing and maintaining a good understanding of Health Scheme and BVD Scheme rules and advising clients on testing requirements

Minimum Qualifications: SCQF Level 9, appropriate degree and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience or appropriate qualification and extensive relevant experience.

Eligibility for Sponsorship: This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. If you are a migrant worker, you will need to ensure you have an appropriate visa to evidence the necessary right to work in the UK.
