About the job

SAC Consulting is seeking a Senior Project Manager to provide operational leadership for the planning, governance and delivery of major programmes and projects. You will lead a geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary team and ensure work is delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget, while meeting demanding requirements for reporting, evaluation and accountability. You will be responsible for setting clear delivery plans, managing resources, monitoring progress, and maintaining robust risk and issue management. Acting as a key point of contact for senior stakeholders, you will build effective relationships, manage expectations, and ensure communication is accurate, timely and professional. A strong focus will be placed on governance and quality assurance, with reliable delivery evidence and well-maintained records. The role also includes oversight of programme management systems and data processes, supporting effective reporting and continuous improvement. You will help develop consistent ways of working, improve efficiency, and strengthen team capability through coaching, support and clear performance expectations. You will bring significant experience in project and programme delivery, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead people through competing priorities and operational challenges. Regular travel across Scotland will be required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

  • Educated to at least SCQF Level 8 Degree Level (or equivalent) in a related subject or equivalent relevant experience
  • Significant experience in programme and project management including delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder work
  • Proven experience of leading and managing teams, including geographically dispersed and/or multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with confidence in client facing environments
  • Flexible approach and skilled in problem solving
  • Sound knowledge of programme and project governance, planning, delivery and reporting practices
  • Strong IT skills and numeracy, including confidence working with delivery data, evaluation requirements and management reporting
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel as required
  • Basic knowledge of farming systems, rural businesses or agricultural advisory services, or the wider rural policy context
  • Applies strong operational judgement to plan and deliver work in complex environments with competing demands

Desirable:

  • Formal qualification in project or programme management, marketing, communications or a related subject
  • Experience of delivery programmes under public sector governance, scrutiny or audit requirements
  • Experience of cloud-based project or programme management systems.
  • Demonstrable continuous improvement mindset

Salary and benefits? Up to £59,460 depending on experience.
