About The Team: SRUC's School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences (SVMB) was founded on the organisation's established expertise across this sector. SVMB is a natural evolution of SRUC's interprofessional and highly acclaimed expertise in Veterinary and Animal Biosciences. Our collegiate approach will facilitate synergies, addressing skills, knowledge and enterprise gaps across the breadth of this sector – providing essential support to Scotland's Natural Economy.

The Opportunity: SRUC's School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences will be opening a brand new first opinion teaching clinic at our Aberdeen campus to train the next generation of vets and nurses. We are looking for an experienced Clinical Director to help develop and shape its future from the very beginning. This is a rare opportunity to lead, inspire and build a team within a teaching environment, redefining affordable, community-based first opinion veterinary care. You will combine strategic leadership with hands-on clinical work and teaching, with access to excellent resources and work closely with your academic colleagues. Your mission is to ensure the clinic meets RCVS accreditation standards, enabling students to achieve Day One Competence.

The Clinical Director will lead, continue the establishment, and deliver the strategic, clinical, educational and operational management of SRUC's Small Animal Teaching Clinic. The postholder will ensure the Clinic operates as an independent, first-opinion, financially sustainable veterinary practice, while also delivering high-quality, authentic clinical learning opportunities for:

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSci) students
  • Veterinary Nursing students
  • Veterinary Care and Animal Welfare (VCAW) students

The role combines clinical leadership, business acumen, educational oversight and people management, ensuring that clinical excellence, student learning, client satisfaction and financial sustainability are fully aligned.

The postholder will:

  • Set and maintain clinical standards, protocols and culture;
  • Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and substantial clinical input;
  • Ensure safe, equitable integration of students into real-case pathways while liaising with academic teaching;
  • Embed data-driven continuous improvement, One Health approaches and client-journey design to support clinical excellence, research enablement and student development;
  • Lead on the development and ongoing operation of the business, including providing financial leadership, holding accountability for the successful commercialisation of the clinic;
  • Provide leadership to the team in all practice matters, overseeing the operational and financial management of the clinic.

Minimum Qualifications: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 11 (Masters or equivalent qualification) specifically a degree in Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Science. M/FRCVS registered veterinary surgeon, eligible to work clinically in the UK.

Eligibility for Sponsorship: For the purposes of sponsorship, this role may be eligible for sponsorship depending on candidate circumstances.

Why work for SRUC? Generous annual leave, enhanced pension contributions, cycle to work scheme, discounted RAC Membership, generous family leave, flexible working patterns, hybrid working solutions (in some areas), tailored investment in individuals' learning and development.
