Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Compliance Department in Europe ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Regulatory Relations UK: Primary manager of interface with UK regulatory authorities, including the FCA and PRA. Responsible for supporting and coordinating supervisory exam management, continuous regulatory interactions monitoring, and reporting to internal Bank senior management and committees on regulatory topics for the UK. Partners closely with business unit and control function management and staff to support their UK regulatory interactions. Responsible for monitoring of remediation commitments made by Scotiabank to its UK regulators and assists with the preparation of formal responses to regulatory letters and commitments. Supports and coordinates (in conjunction with the Director, European Head of Regulatory Relations & Ireland Central Compliance) responses for all centralised reporting (e.g. monthly ROC meetings, GRR monthly meetings, CCO reporting etc.). Responsible for tracking examinations and findings and extracting relevant KRIs and KPIs for reporting. Support and cover for Ireland Regulatory Relations as required.
  • Regulatory Programmes Europe: Undertakes and coordinates gap analysis and implementation of regulatory change and developments for the Compliance Department, working with subject matter experts across Europe Compliance including Advisory Compliance, in accordance with the Scotiabank Global Regulatory Obligations Operating Procedures as applicable. Works closely with and in alignment with the UK and Ireland Senior Managers leading the regulatory change management programmes. A member of the European Regulatory Changes Group, which oversees and facilitates compliance with the Global Compliance Regulatory Obligations Operating Procedures across Europe. Mandate to project manage key European programmes led or developed by the European Compliance function, including; remediation projects, regulatory change initiatives, operational enhancement initiatives and specific projects as directed by the Head of Compliance. Provides support and cover, as required, to the European Strategy, Governance & Programmes team, where agreed by the Senior Manager, Strategy, Governance & Programmes, Europe.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience

  • Solid and relevant compliance experience in a financial institution.
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic business environment, working independently or collaboratively as required.
  • Strong, analytical and communication and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail.
  • Broad knowledge of European regulatory rules, guidance and principles.
  • Broad understanding of the European financial services sector, including banking, sales, trading, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets.
  • Proven data and project management skills, with the ability to effectively and appropriately influence stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
