This position is ideal for a qualified Vehicle Technician seeking to transition from hands-on workshop duties into a structured office-based technical role. You will act as the key link between our field engineers and management team, interpreting technical findings, analysing diagnostic data, and producing clear, professional reports confirming vehicle condition and any underlying or developing faults. This is a highly responsible role requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent IT skills, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and accurately.
Key Responsibilities
- Report Collation & Review: Gather and review inspection reports, diagnostic data, and supporting documentation from field engineers. Ensure all required information, imagery, and evidence has been provided.
- Technical Analysis & Interpretation: Analyse fault codes, live data, and engineer observations. Identify root causes and assess whether faults are pre-existing, developing, or wear-related. Determine vehicle fitness for purpose and highlight any underlying risks.
- Report Writing & Conclusions: Produce clear, structured, and evidence-based technical reports. Provide professional conclusions and recommendations. Support warranty and liability assessments where required.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all reports meet company standards for accuracy, clarity, and completeness. Review engineer submissions and request clarification where necessary.
- Communication & Coordination: Liaise with field engineers to clarify findings or obtain missing information. Translate technical data into clear, understandable summaries for clients and management.
- Process Improvement: Identify recurring faults, reporting inconsistencies, or operational inefficiencies. Recommend improvements to reporting procedures and internal systems.
- Technical Liaison: Communicate with parts suppliers, manufacturers, and technical support where required. Assist with warranty-related queries and technical verification.
- System & Administration Duties: Create, manage, and update jobs on the internal web-based portal. Maintain accurate digital records and documentation. Process customer payments and support administrative workflows.
Required Skills & Experience
- Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent).
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office and web-based systems essential).
- Proven ability to interpret diagnostics and technical data.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to produce structured, professional reports.
Desirable Experience
- Previous role as Service Advisor, Workshop Controller, or Technical Support.
- Familiarity with manufacturer warranty systems or DVSA standards.
- Experience with CRM, fleet, or inspection management systems.
