Overview

In this role you support SGN’s gas quality and metering integrity across the Transmission Network, ensuring GSMR, UNC and Ofgem reporting compliance. You’ll lead fault investigations, manage fiscal metering and gas-quality systems, and contribute to a growing portfolio of biomethane facilities and entry points. You work with cross-functional teams to deliver accurate reporting and drive improvements in metering accuracy and monitoring. This is a mission-driven role at a net-zero–focused gas network, offering impact across projects from biomethane to hydrogen.

Responsibilities

  • Manage fiscal metering systems for accuracy, reconciliation, and error reporting
  • Provide specialist input on gas quality monitoring (gas chromatography and analysers)
  • Deliver Ofgem compliance reporting for Offtakes, Biomethane sites, and entry points
  • Lead technical fault investigations and support timely resolution
  • Support development and delivery of SGN’s Gas Analyser Condition Monitoring Service
  • Contribute to entry point projects including biomethane and hydrogen in line with Net Zero strategy
  • Champion internal and external working groups to drive meaningful industry changes

Key requirements

  • HNC (or equivalent) in Engineering, Instrumentation, Process Control, or related discipline
  • Strong technical knowledge of fiscal flow metering systems, flow measurement technologies, calibration, and error reconciliation
  • Experience with gas quality monitoring, including gas chromatography and associated analytical systems
  • Familiarity with GSMR, UNC and Ofgem compliance requirements
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities
