Overview

As Safety Risk and Policy Leader, you will develop and govern safety policies and risk controls to support high-risk work across SGN, with emphasis on contractor safety. You will implement assurance frameworks, monitor regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement using incident data. You’ll work with stakeholders to embed a strong safety culture and lead investigations and preventive actions. This role offers meaningful impact across gas safety and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain health and safety policies aligned to regulatory standards and risk priorities
  • Identify and manage operational risks within specialist areas and implement effective controls
  • Monitor compliance via audits, inspections, and assurance activities
  • Provide guidance and training to operational and leadership teams
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis to drive corrective actions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to embed safety culture and support change management
  • Produce regular performance reports with trends and insights for strategic safety improvements

Key requirements

  • Recognised health and safety qualification or equivalent knowledge
  • Knowledge or experience in PPE, confined spaces, excavation, COSHH and working at height
  • Understanding of regulations such as PUWER, LOLER, CDM, NRSWA or ability to apply them practically
  • Experience supporting risk assessments, investigations, and control measures implementation
  • Ability to work with contractors and monitor compliance with standards
  • Experience contributing to safety policies and safe working practices
  • Background in gas, utilities, or high-risk environments with several years of relevant experience
  • Experience managing changing priority risk categories across Contractor management and other areas
