We are seeking an Asset Data Manager to lead our Asset Data and Records Management functions and turn network asset data into actionable intelligence. Reporting directly to the Head of Asset Engineering, you will hold overall responsibility for the acquisition, structuring, retention, and governance of all maintained network asset data across the SGN estate (including pressure reduction stations, pipelines, governors, and cathodic protection systems). In this strategic and hands-on leadership position, you will bridge the gap between technical data repositories and engineering teams. You will oversee a team of direct reports, manage and govern core systems (such as our Pipeline Integrity Management Software), lead regulatory data compliance, and manage the function which administers the Management of Change process and issues annual maintenance plans.

We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…

  • Data Management & System Governance: Take overall accountability for all maintained network asset data across the estate. Ensuring data integrity, system integration, and robust data governance frameworks.
  • Analytics, Insights & Innovation: Extract, cleanse, and structure fragmented data from SQL databases, Maximo, Access, and Excel to identify trends, anomalies, and risk profiles. Develop interactive Power BI dashboards and predictive risk scoring models to support maintenance optimisation, defect management, and asset life extension.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Strategy: Oversee data governance supporting statutory compliance (e.g., PSSR), and hold responsibility for the SGN Management of Change process and annual maintenance plans.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Provide line management to the Asset Data Officer and Asset Records Manager (including work allocation, performance management, and coaching).
  • Process Optimisation & Automation: Design and implement repeatable analytical workflows and automated templates to reduce manual reporting hours and improve overall departmental efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary technical interface providing data pathways between Asset Engineering, Asset Records, Network Strategy, Operations, Health & Safety, and Regulators.

What you will need:

  • Data & Systems Mastery: Proven experience extracting, cleansing, structuring, and joining multi-source operational or engineering datasets using SQL from systems such as Maximo, Access, and Excel.
  • Business Intelligence: Expertise in BI tools for building interactive dashboards, performance visualisations, and delivering data storytelling to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Domain & Regulatory Knowledge: Practical understanding of asset management principles, engineering workflows, and statutory frameworks (e.g., PSSR, Management of Change processes) in utilities, gas networks, or heavy infrastructure environments.
  • Process & People Integration: Strong track record in workflow optimisation, process mapping, team management, and acting as a translator between engineering functions and IT/Data teams.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • Background in Engineering, Data Analytics, Asset Management, Information Technology, or a quantitative discipline.
  • Professional certifications in BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) or Database Management/SQL.
  • Experience of major accident hazard pipelines, or other high hazard industry.
  • Experience implementing predictive maintenance models or condition-based risk frameworks.

If this role interests you but you’re not sure you tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you. You might be just who we’re looking for – now or in the future.
