Role Description
The Sourcing Lead shall be responsible for driving sourcing and procurement activities across SYR’s new product development programs and continual process improvement projects, from supplier identification and qualification through to onboarding and product receipt. This role sits at the centre of innovation, partnering closely with R&D / NPD, Operations, and global suppliers to ensure new products launch on time, on cost, and with a fully qualified supply base. The successful candidate will thrive in a highly collaborative manufacturing environment where stakeholder management, supplier strategy, and launch execution are critical to success.
Responsibilities
- Own sourcing and procurement activities supporting R&D / NPD programs from concept through to launch.
- Lead supplier identification selection, qualification, onboarding, and product readiness activities across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Manage & lead risk mitigation plans for assigned commodities.
- Partner closely with Sales and Finance teams to align sourcing strategies with commercial objectives.
- Drive supplier engagement early in the design phase to improve quality, reduce lead times, and optimize total cost of ownership.
- Carry out in depth cost breakdown analysis and negotiate Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) within Domestic & Global supply base.
- Collaborate with Operations and Buyers to ensure seamless transition into manufacturing.
- Support supplier risk evaluation, and sourcing strategy decisions.
- Deliver against launch milestones, cost targets, and supplier readiness KPIs.
- Carry out in depth cost breakdown analysis and negotiate lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) within Local & Global supply base.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Be qualified with either a CIPS Level 4 Diploma or BSc / BA in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- Have experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain, logistics or project management within manufacturing environments.
- Have experience with supplier qualification, sourcing strategy, and supplier negotiations.
- Be knowledgeable in supplier Contract Negotiation working with Commercial Terms.
- Have experience formulating ‘Commodity Strategies’ based on historical data, future project’s demand, and other key indicators.
- Be able to work cross-functionally with R&D / NPD, Operations, QHSE and Procurement stakeholders.
- Have experience managing sourcing activities for engineered products.
- Have strong communication and stakeholder management skills within collaborative environments.
- Be able to understand legal terms and contract negotiation.
- Be able to, on occasion, travel nationally & internationally as required.
