Repair Process Improvement Specialist (Fixed Term - 6 Months)

Job Reference: REC00182

About The Role

The Compliance Specialist will be responsible for reviewing and improving the end-to-end repair process, covering the quotation process, goods arriving, strip and inspection, and full repair, together with the supply chain and procurement of key parts. A key focus of the role will be to review the actual routes repairs currently take through the business, with a view to designing and implementing a proper, standardised routing for repairs. The role will also support the digital implementation of the repair process within Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), working closely with the Transformation and Lean Director on process improvements. Given the 6-month timescale, previous experience within Score Energy and familiarity with current repair processes is critical, so that the project can be expedited and delivered in a timely manner. This is a 6-month fixed term contract reporting to the Business Optimisation Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures, standards and work instructions
  • Map and document the current end-to-end repair process, from customer enquiry and quotation through goods arriving, strip and inspection, full repair and dispatch, identifying bottlenecks, delays and waste
  • Review the repair quotation process, working with commercial, engineering and estimating teams to improve the accuracy, consistency and turnaround time of quotations.
  • Review the goods-in process for repair items, ensuring components are received, identified, logged and booked into the system accurately and promptly.
  • Review the strip and inspection process, standardising inspection findings and reporting so that results feed quickly and accurately into the quotation and repair scope.
  • Review the actual routes repairs take through the workshop against planned routes, identifying unnecessary movements, rework loops, queues and variation.
  • Analyse the history of previous repairs, including past inspection findings, repair schemes, routes taken, turnaround times and recurring issues, to inform standard routings, quotation accuracy and parts planning.
  • Design and implement a proper repair routing structure, including standard routings, operation sequences and work centres, in collaboration with production, planning, engineering and quality.
  • Support the digital implementation of the repair process in D365, ensuring the improved process, standard routings, quotation and inspection stages are accurately configured, tested and adopted, working with IT and the D365 project team.
  • Use D365 data and reporting to give real-time visibility of repair status, routings and parts, and identify opportunities to reduce manual and paper-based processes.
  • Review the supply chain and procurement of key repair parts, identifying long-lead, critical and high-spend items and their impact on repair turnaround.
  • Work with procurement, planning and suppliers to improve the availability and lead times of key parts, including stocking strategies, supplier performance and timely ordering linked to strip and inspection findings.
  • Develop and introduce KPIs to measure repair process performance, such as quotation turnaround, strip and inspection lead time, parts lead time and availability, and overall repair turnaround time.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives across departments, leveraging Lean methodologies and continuous improvement techniques such as value stream mapping, root cause analysis and 5S.
  • Collaborate with the Transformation and Lean Director on process improvements, ensuring repair improvements align with the wider business transformation and Lean programme.
  • Create and update procedures, work instructions and process documentation to embed the improved repair process, and support the training of affected staff.
  • Provide regular progress reports and recommendations to the Business Optimisation Leader, and deliver a handover plan to ensure improvements are sustained beyond the contract period.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business
  • Strong analytical, process mapping and problem-solving skills, with good I.T skills including Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) or similar ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office, and an understanding of supply chain and procurement principles.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND, BEng or MEng in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or similar related technical discipline), or equivalent experience.
  • Lean / Six Sigma qualification (Green Belt or above) desirable.
  • Proven track record of delivering process improvement, ideally within a repair, overhaul or manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO processes desirable.

Experience

  • Previous experience working within Score Energy, with a sound working knowledge of current repair processes, systems and teams, is essential to enable the project to be expedited and delivered within the contract period.
  • Experience in a continuous improvement or process improvement role within a repair, MRO or manufacturing environment, including experience of workshop routings, quotation and inspection processes, and supply chain or procurement of parts.
  • Experience of working with and analysing component repair history is essential. Experience of implementing or configuring processes in D365 or a similar ERP system is highly desirable.
  • Experience in gas turbine or rotating equipment repair is advantageous.

Skills & Behaviours

  • Strong analytical, process mapping and problem-solving skills, with good I.T skills including Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) or similar ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office, and an understanding of supply chain and procurement principles
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of repair history, including the ability to interpret historical repair records, previous findings, repair schemes and turnaround data, and to use this to identify trends, recurring defects and opportunities to standardise repair routes and quotations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels and across departments.
  • Commitment to continual improvement and flexible approach to change.
  • Self-motivated and results-focused, able to hit the ground running, work on own initiative and deliver improvements within a fixed timeframe.
