The Senior Claims Analyst will have assigned accounts/Lines of Business and is primarily responsible for independently reviewing, validating, adjusting (within authority) or routing (re)insurance claims to ensure they are handled accurately, fairly, and in line with policy terms, authority limits, and regulatory expectations.

This client-focused position requires a strong level of proficiency in Marine, including Hull & Machinery and Cargo, with previous claims handling experience required. Individuals will be responsible for autonomously managing a caseload of low-to-mid value & complexity claims, delivering excellent customer service to stakeholders and clients, and recognising claims issues which require escalation to Claims Experts or Management.

In addition to this core function, the Senior Claims Analyst is a senior member of staff providing the first line of triage/support for the Claims Analyst Team, supporting Claims Experts in monitoring and performance of the claims portfolio under management, providing system & process subject matter expertise, and regularly communicating with internal or external stakeholders (e.g., claims experts, management, accounting, underwriters, brokers etc.).

Responsibilities

    • Perform an FNOL (First Notice of Loss) review on incoming claims on assigned accounts/Lines of Business as part of a continual triage of the loss.
    • Assign the claim post-triage: refer higher-complexity losses to a more senior Claims Expert for assessment/adjustment; retain low-to-mid complexity loss for adjustment and ongoing management; or delegate claims that are low complexity and straightforward in nature that are suitable for “processing” to the Technical Accounting (TA&A) team.
    • Review contracts/policies and backup documentation to confirm coverage under the policy.
    • Assess and determine low-to-mid complexity, risk, and/or value claims in line with policy terms, procedures, and authority limits, applying sound technical judgement to reach fair, proportionate, and defensible outcomes.
    • Identify claims that are complex, unusual, or high‑risk, recognising and referring all claims which require further review by others within the claim department.
    • Handle, close and/or follow up on all claims assigned, both manually and electronically.
    • Transact on assigned claims within their authority including setting reserves and authorising payments within authority.
    • Produce clear, accurate case notes explaining decisions and rationale ensuring all claim files are complete, well-structured and audit-ready.
    • Collaborate and assist in the account management of assigned accounts/lines of business, often with other internal department representatives.
    • Act as an escalation point for more complex cases from other analysts or team leaders.
    • Anticipate client needs and expectations and deliver superior customer service.
    • Work effectively with others within the claim department, particularly with other claim experts and analysts, to ensure prompt turnaround and response to clients, brokers and outside vendors.
    • Effectively communicate claim issues with internal or external stakeholders including underwriters, brokers and clients and represent SCOR’s interests.
    • Provide technical advice and direction to developing Claims Analysts.
  • Quality & Governance
    • Demonstrate consistently strong Quality Assurance (QA) outcomes, acting as a quality benchmark within the function.
    • Support quality assurance activity by reviewing themes, root causes, and improvement actions.
    • Support oversight by QA Lead of claims management and performance of TA&A teams.
    • Ensure claims files meet governance, documentation, and audit standards.
    • Perform more sophisticated data analysis to evaluate portfolios.
    • Participate in Audit Committees as required (Treaty Only).
    • Contribute to updates of guidance, procedures, and decision frameworks.
  • Performance & Delivery
    • Manage workload effectively to meet service level agreements (SLAs) without compromising quality.
    • Balance productivity with technical accuracy and risk management.
    • Support team delivery during peaks or more complex caseloads.
  • Continuous Improvement & Change
    • Identify opportunities to improve claims processes (including CA Team framework), controls, or guidance.
