As a member of the London Underwriting Team, you will join a highly motivated, experienced team of technical Power Underwriters and report directly to the Global Segment Leader Power. You will manage a portfolio of international Power Generation business and become a key element of the continued success of one of SBS’ key class of business.
Within SCOR Global P&C, SCOR Business Solutions (SBS) is the central unit dedicated to insuring the business risks faced by large corporate companies. SBS and its predecessors have been serving their customers for 45 years and have maintained a continuous presence in the market by upholding a strong technical culture supported by SCOR’s best-in-class financial strength rating.
Business activity is generally global from London and structured around four regions (Americas, LATAM, EMEA, APAC) through seven global lines of business (Property & Power, Construction Energy, Casualty, Financial Lines, Political & Credit Risks, Cyber, Marine, Space, Fine Art & Specie). Clients are supported by specialised underwriters who rely on SCOR's technical expertise and client knowledge.
The London Power team consists of three underwriters plus the Global Practice Leader Power, with a further eight Power underwriters located across Paris, New York, Houston, Singapore and Sao Paulo. The London Power team plays a central role in cross-selling and product development and has built a diversified portfolio with worldwide exposure.
- Manage the existing operational Power Generation portfolio (renewals, endorsements, risk and client visits, client meetings, claims involvement).
- Contribute positively to the overall results of SCOR Business Solutions by demonstrably sound technical and profitable underwriting.
- Develop SCOR’s Power Generation market share and leadership position globally.
- Enhance SCOR’s image in the market by efficient and innovative support of client needs and market networking.
- Negotiate bespoke service line specific wordings.
- Maintain and develop relationships with clients and brokers; travel as and when required to do so.
- Represent SCOR at international events, both general industry conferences and client hosted annual conferences and market trips.
- Receive, select and evaluate offers of business from various sources, calculate ratings and negotiate the bespoke wordings of the contracts.
- Generate and originate new offers and promote SCOR by pro-active marketing in accordance with the strategy and guidelines defined in the SCOR Power Generation Roadmap and relevant guidelines.
- Respond to all enquiries in a timely manner.
- Assist the Global Segment Leader in the research, development and report on new areas of potential profitable growth.
- Maintain accurate records of quotes, risks accepted and declinatures.
- Control and verify premium income according to business plan.
- Assist the Global Segment Leader to produce reports of various formats for reporting purposes as required.
- Contribute to the claims settlement process in conjunction with the claims department.
- Contribute to the division’s technical knowledge of sectors and sub-sectors in which the jobholder is working.
- Motivate, encourage and contribute to the training of the team; regularly liaise and support the regional SCOR Power Generation teams.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant international licensing requirements for SCOR’s various offices.
- Work closely with peers across the EMEA team to maintain a collaborative culture and a team spirit.
Experience
- Essential: Established underwriter with several years of direct underwriting experience in a relevant class of business in the London market; proven underwriting skills including wording negotiation; established market relationships.
- Desired: Established client relationships; industry or risk management experience; experience of writing international business; broking experience.
Competencies
- Sound technical knowledge of subjects associated with underwriting as well as a wider understanding of related legal, risk management, social and economic topics.
- Knowledge of competitors, cedants, reinsurers and brokers within the London market and internationally.
- Commercial and tactical vision.
- Ability to successfully negotiate “face-to-face” with brokers.
- Ability to lead business.
- Ability to promote the underwriting policy.
- Ability to use spreadsheets to a high standard.
- Able to adapt well to SCOR structure and philosophy, which includes technical underwriting and technical referrals.
- Ability to quickly acquire a thorough understanding of SCOR’s underwriting policy and guidelines.
