This is a senior leadership role within SCOR Global P&C Claims, responsible for managing a complex portfolio of non-life reinsurance treaty claims across London, Paris (MEA) and Madrid. We are looking for an experienced claims professional with deep technical expertise, strong commercial judgement and the credibility to lead across a complex international environment. The successful candidate will be a recognised subject matter expert in complex treaty claims, able to lead significant and sensitive matters with confidence while maintaining high standards of governance, reserving, reporting and client service.
The candidate must demonstrate leadership skills on complex market claims, with experience in participating or leading market committees or litigation within their areas of expertise. The role requires excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to build strong relationships across underwriting, actuarial, technical accounting, clients, brokers and senior management. This role also calls for strong people leadership, with the ability to develop others, provide technical direction and represent the function effectively both internally and externally. Some travel will be required for audits, market meetings, client visits and wider stakeholder engagement. As part of the ongoing development of a market-leading claims function, the individual will also be expected to support the digitalisation of the department, so confidence with technology and modern ways of working is important.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage a portfolio of reinsurance P&C accounts which entails:
- Primarily responsible for all Non-Life Claims deriving from reinsurance treaties underwritten in London, Paris (ME&A) and Madrid, including ‘Alternative Solutions’ Claims in areas of responsibility, particularly to ensure the adequateness and accuracy of reserves that claim payments are only made if coverage under the reinsurance treaties is given and amounts are appropriate.
- Provide managerial leadership on largest, technical claims under portfolio/s under control.
- Provide technical leadership to claims experts and others within SCOR, e.g. Underwriters, Actuaries and/or Technical Accounting.
- Identifying and determining trends and claims issues and presenting findings, ideas, proposals and other concluding information to line manager and potentially at Senior Management level.
- Evaluating, developing, reporting on and resolving complex and/or higher value claims and/or loss bordereaux.
- Compile or supervise production of highest standard senior management reporting, fully understanding the underlying losses and issues being reported on and presenting clear and concise conclusions when required and appropriate.
- Lead market committees or litigation/dispute resolution when required and requested.
- Provide independent views on coverage, liability and quantum and provide timely reporting.
- Approving financial transactions on claims within authority. This includes assessing and evaluating liability, coverage, and quantum, as well as establishing and updating reserves (as appropriate).
- Manage the lifecycle of a claim to achieve an optimal outcome for SCOR, including the positioning of reserves, engagement of third parties (including but not limited to legal counsel, loss adjusters, forensic accountants etc), attendance at market/settlement meetings and/or forums for the resolution of the claim (mediation, arbitration, court etc).
- Collaborating and assisting in the management of assigned accounts or product line business, often with other internal department representatives and providing marketing support relating to cedents, insured and/or brokers.
- Conducting claim audits and/or participating in active reviews of clients and service providers and providing marketing support relating to insureds, cedents, and brokers.
- Analysing loss and expense trends on product line business, emerging risks and large losses; assisting in the development and implementation of plans to improve results, liaising with Underwriting and Actuarial teams as needed.
- Anticipating client needs and expectations and delivering superior customer service.
- Working collaboratively with others within the claim department, particularly with other claim experts and those staffing the claim analyst or technical accounting unit, to ensure prompt turnaround and response to clients.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to consistently meet deadlines. High degree of accountability, both personally and within the team.
- Contributing to the company’s international community of claims expertise by sharing knowledge and experience on a global basis.
- Keeping abreast of claim and industry developments/trends in order to maintain a high level of expertise.
- Leading or participating in projects as required.
- Coaching, mentoring, and assisting in the training of more junior claim staff.
- Participate in operational performance reviews and establish a culture of continuous improvement to support overall claim strategy of providing a “Centre of Excellence” in claims.
- Contributing to practice group needs in relation to SCOR system of records for claims management purposes.
- Liaise and support the claims departments in other SCOR EMEA hubs/branches as required and appropriate.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience of the European insurance markets within responsibility.
- Experience of managing teams and complex claims within assigned business areas.
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of local and exposed territories.
- Demonstrate high level of technical competence in the managing and evaluation of claims.
- Knowledge of insurance regulation and legislation across affected jurisdictions.
- Excellent knowledge of legal principles, policy wordings and insurance market practice relevant to the management, handling and reserving of claims.
- Good IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Trustworthy, honest, high ethical and personal standards.
- Outcome focused, self-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
- Good analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Comfortable with dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

- Written and oral French is preferred but not required.

- University degree or equivalent further educational qualification from a recognised university or college or alternatively, solid working experience in the industry.
- Relevant professional qualification (preferred but not essential).
- Further vocational training as appropriate.
