The role holder will be required to provide reliable, accurate and efficient support to the Marine Underwriting team and provide quality customer service to all key brokers and clients. The role holder will be responsible for preparing information for underwriting purposes, specifically regarding account pricing. They will also be a key player in providing and managing the MI for the ongoing analysis of the portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Underwriting within guidelines of letter of authority and in accordance with the business plan – servicing bound accounts, analysing new submissions and renewals.
- Prepare and review pricing adequacy for each risk.
- Attend and participate in internal meetings, adding value to the Marine team and the wider organisation.
- Attend Broker and Client meetings, working closely with brokers and developing strong relationships to facilitate the business and portfolio.
- Reporting and tracking of all internal audit and compliance requirements for the Portfolio – including KYC, Sanctions, ESG requirements.
- Working efficiently and successfully with internal stakeholders in these areas.
- Working with Technical Assistants to ensure all data entered is accurate.
- Gain a strong working knowledge of all SCOR MI data, and work with Underwriters on regular reporting projects in order to continually monitor performance of the portfolio.
- Monitor upcoming renewals and risks in the new business pipeline.
- Attend SCOR’s Lloyd’s box to service brokers submissions and endorsements if and when necessary.
Broker/Client Interaction
- Provide a professional service to brokers, clients and external suppliers in person, by email and telephone.
- Maintain and develop broker relationships, responding to queries in a timely fashion.
- Prepare for, attend, and take minutes at client meetings as required.
- Liaise with brokers to ensure all slips and additional information received is accurate and complete.
Reporting & Operational Requirements
- Provide accurate management information to the Underwriting team and senior management when required.
- Produce ad hoc reports, presentations and other team literature for key relations as and when requested.
- Monitor and chase brokers for all credit control aged debt ensuring the timely collection of premiums.
General Requirements
- Identify and report problems within the underwriting administration system and assist with solution design.
- Assist with User Acceptance Testing of the underwriting administration system as and when required.
- Interact with all SCOR teams including claims, finance, operations and compliance on matters affecting or related to accounts within the team’s portfolio.
- Participate in cross-team projects as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be requested by SCOR staff.
- Comply with SCOR policies, procedures and regulations relevant to your role.
- Manage training needs through attendance of relevant training as advised by your line manager and also market presentations where relevant to your role.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as defined through your objectives.
- Uphold the principle of Treating Customers Fairly.

Qualifications Required
- Educated to A Level, or equivalent qualifications.
- Relevant university degree, or equivalence.
- ACII Diploma.
- Progression towards a professional qualification.
- Lloyds Market Test.
Required experience & competencies
- Several years of experience gained within the marine insurance industry.
- High level of analytical, numeracy and literacy skills.
- Good MS Office applications skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiar with using UW systems, rating tools, reporting etc.
- Experience within an International environment.
- A few years of direct underwriting experience in the London market or elsewhere.
- Outcome focused, self-motivated, flexible, enthusiastic.
- Professional approach to working with key stakeholders at all levels of authority.
- Strong understanding of the importance of data quality and its effects on the portfolio analysis and account performance.
