Scopely is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join the MONOPOLY GO! team. The role can be based remotely in the UK, or in Barcelona or Seville on a hybrid basis, with three days a week in the office.
MONOPOLY GO! is a global phenomenon and the biggest mobile game launch in history, captivating millions of players worldwide. At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play every day—whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues or through our deep connections with our communities. We are a global team of game lovers developing, publishing, and innovating across the games industry, connecting millions of players around the world every day. The MONOPOLY GO! Tech Vertical develops the platforms, services, and engineering capabilities that support a reliable, responsive mobile gaming experience.
We are building a Quality Engineering organization that embeds quality throughout development through automation, continuous validation, and shared engineering ownership.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer who enjoys writing code, solving complex problems, and building tools that help teams deliver with confidence. Reporting to the Quality Director of Tech, you will help establish our QE capabilities through hands-on development of automation frameworks, test infrastructure, and quality insights across mobile, Unity, APIs, integrations, performance, and CI/CD. You will help build our Quality Engineering capabilities incrementally, prioritising the areas of greatest risk and value with the team. You will take ownership of immediate testing needs, including manual, exploratory, and release validation, while developing sustainable automation and tooling. A willingness to test directly is essential. You will use what you learn to guide automation priorities, while recognising the continuing value of exploratory testing, and develop practical AI capabilities that improve engineering effectiveness.
What You Will Do
- Build reusable engineering solutions.
- Write, review, debug, and maintain automation frameworks, tools, and test infrastructure that other engineers can adopt and extend.
- Improve testability from the start.
- Participate in technical design and code reviews to identify risks early and improve test hooks, service interfaces, and diagnostic capabilities.
- Balance building with hands-on testing.
- Perform manual, exploratory, and release testing where automation is not yet available or direct investigation provides greater value.
- Meet current delivery needs while building sustainable solutions.
- Develop mobile and Unity automation.
- Automate Android, iOS, and Unity workflows, accounting for device differences, application lifecycle events, network conditions, and client performance.
- Strengthen API and integration testing.
- Validate backend services, service contracts, client-server interactions, data integrity, and failure recovery through reliable automated tests.
- Validate player-state consistency and recovery.
- Test interrupted sessions, reconnects, retries, and client-server synchronisation to help protect player progress and data integrity.
- Investigate failures across systems.
- Use logs, metrics, traces, crash reports, and telemetry to investigate client, backend, and integration failures, support root-cause analysis, and turn findings into regression coverage.
- Validate mobile and backend performance.
- Profile frame rate, memory usage, application startup, crashes, and responsiveness.
- Develop backend load, stress, and endurance tests, establish meaningful baselines, and investigate bottlenecks and regressions with engineers.
- Apply risk-based testing.
- Prioritise validation by player impact, technical complexity, change scope, and failure history.
- Combine service-level tests, targeted end-to-end automation, and exploratory testing.
- Integrate validation into CI/CD.
- Deliver reliable automated feedback, useful diagnostics, and maintainable quality checks.
- Improve test stability and execution time, with clear ownership of failures.
- Improve test data and environments.
- Build utilities, fixtures, and repeatable setup processes that make testing dependable and defects easier to reproduce.
- Develop AI-assisted quality workflows.
- Build and evaluate solutions for test generation, failure triage, regression selection, and coverage analysis, with human review and measurable outcomes.
- Strengthen telemetry validation and quality visibility.
- Partner with engineering and analytics to validate telemetry accuracy, completeness, duplicates, schema changes, and data freshness.
- Query large datasets to investigate issues and build quality dashboards that inform risk assessment and release decisions.
- Help establish the QE organization.
- Contribute standards, documentation, reusable patterns, and mentoring.
- Partner with developers, Quality Analysts, and technical leaders to strengthen shared ownership of quality.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated quality engineering, software development in test, or software engineering experience, including hands-on ownership of automation used by other engineers.
- Strong programming skills in C# or Python, with the ability to work effectively in Unity and automation codebases.
- Experience in source control, code reviews, debugging, and maintainable software design.
- Practical experience testing and automating Android and iOS applications, including device coverage, operating system differences, and unreliable network conditions.
- Experience developing API and integration tests, diagnosing failures across services and data flows, and integrating reliable automated tests into CI/CD.
- Working knowledge of performance, risk-based, and exploratory testing, with sound judgment about what to automate and when to investigate directly.
- Working knowledge of SQL and practical experience with telemetry and big data, including querying large datasets, validating events and data pipelines, and using findings to guide testing and release decisions.
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and the ability to evaluate the accuracy and usefulness of their outputs.
- Strong ownership and collaborative problem-solving, with the ability to turn ambiguous needs into practical solutions.
- A passion for quality, mobile games, AI, and technology.
- Advanced professional proficiency in spoken and written English, sufficient to participate independently in technical discussions, explain engineering decisions, and write clear documentation with global teams.
Additional experience we value
- Hands-on experience with Unity, C#, Unity Test Framework, or automated testing of Unity-based mobile games.
- Experience with live-service games, player-state consistency, reconnect behaviour, live configuration, or client-server synchronisation.
- Experience with mobile device farms, observability, quality dashboards, or establishing QE capabilities within a growing team.
What success looks like
- Teams receive faster, more trustworthy feedback and clearer visibility into release risk.
- Immediate testing needs are met while dependable automation grows around critical player journeys and integrations.
- Performance regressions surface earlier, failures are easier to diagnose, and repetitive effort decreases.
- Your tools are maintained, documented, and adopted by other engineers, and AI capabilities demonstrate measurable value.
