Contract Kafka SME – AKS – Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, Service Clusters, Linux, CI/CD/Patching

Our Central London based client is looking for a Kafka SME on a contract basis. Long term contract.

Responsibilities:

1. Designing, deploying, and managing Apache Kafka clusters in our data centre and Azure environment.
2. Manage topics and access control lists (ACLs).
3. Monitor and balance the cluster to optimize resource utilization.
4. Diagnose and troubleshoot performance issues within the Kafka clusters.
5. Oversee system upgrades and patching to maintain platform stability and security.
6. Onboard new applications to seamlessly integrate with the Kafka messaging system.
7. Manage Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters.
8. Use Terraform to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.

Desirable Skills:

1. Able to automate the operation of Azure Infrastructure.
2. Operating Systems (Windows/Linux): using desired state configuration management tooling.
3. CI/CD pipelines: can create a CI/CD pipeline to deploy Infrastructure changes.
4. Manage virtual networks within the Azure environment.
5. Communicate effectively with Azure support to resolve any technical issues that may arise.
6. Experience with Azure services.
7. Experience of managing Kafka cluster in production environment, including additional tasks like user/authentication management, cluster balancing, and system upgrades.
8. Can troubleshoot failures, determine root causes, and make any escalations as appropriate.

Hybrid working – inside IR35 – Kafka, Azure, Terraform experience essential.
