Scone Equine Group (SEG) is Australia's largest provider of equine veterinary services with expertise in all areas of horse care across its specialist subsidiary practices. Located in the heart of Australia's thoroughbred breeding country and across four key horse regions in NSW and Victoria, SEG delivers excellence in equine veterinary health through Scone Equine Hospital, Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre, Avenel Equine Hospital and the Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre, Muswellbrook.

SEG equine veterinarians are recognised around the world for their knowledge and specialists with skills across the full spectrum of the equine practice. We are delighted to announce that DA approval has been granted to Scone Equine Hospital to build a state-of-the-art equine hospital and referral centre. This facility will be located adjacent to the Scone Racecourse and Racing NSW Equine Precinct, and will allow the consolidation of Scone Equine Hospital's services onto one site and is the next step in the practice's 70-year history of delivering veterinary care for the Horse Capital of Australia. We anticipate this new facility to be open in 2024.

Scone Equine Group is seeking suitable applicants for a Senior Associate Equine Veterinarian position. It is expected to have at least 5 years' experience since graduation. The successful applicant will have responsibility for independent veterinary care on client properties with thoroughbred broodmare groups as well as being able to support and participate in artificial reproduction services in Scone. The artificial reproductive services currently offered from our Scone location include fresh, chilled and frozen semen insemination caseload, stallion training and semen collection on jump mare or dummy, chilled semen shipping, fertility investigations, embryo transfer, and semen analysis equipment and casa programs.

The role involves working within a team of ambulatory vets servicing the Denman, Scone, and Murrurundi region of the Upper Hunter Valley. We aim to have the afterhours roster as 1 in 4 at worst during the season as well as in the remainder of the year with adequate back up and second opinion from experienced and specialist veterinarians at all times. Discussions around flexible arrangements in the 'sales season' (February to August) are encouraged.

Applicants should have a wide range of experience in equine veterinary practice, routine stud medicine and reproductive management of the stallion and mare. Thoroughbred stud work experience is a bonus and applicants with specialist qualifications would be at an advantage but not a requirement to apply. There are opportunities for an ongoing position with increased responsibilities over time.

The area of Scone, Denman and Murrurundi is in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia with the second largest population of breeding horses in the world. It is also home to a large performance horse population. The Upper Hunter area is also in close proximity to larger regional towns - Tamworth and Newcastle. The area is close to the vineyard region of Pokolbin and the Newcastle beaches are one and a half hours away, or you could be in Sydney with three and a half hours drive. Scone Equine Hospital is the largest equine veterinary practice in the southern hemisphere, employing approximately 30 equine veterinarians in the peak breeding season time of year.

Selection Criteria: Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent qualification that can be fully registered in New South Wales, Australia. For further information please contact the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales www.vpb.nsw.gov.au. Scone Equine Hospital will assist the successful applicant with the VISA requirements for working in Australia if necessary. Applicants who are only eligible for limited registration will not be considered for the position.

Salary range $100,000 – $130,000 (AUD) (yearly salary) depending on experience with conditions outlined within a contract of employment. Permanent veterinary employees have access to a 4 day working week during the February to August period. Commission of afterhours work available in the remuneration package. A car equipped for on farm ambulatory work will be provided and is available for work and private use. Fully furnished accommodation assistance provided. Phone allowance $50 per month. CPD support and annual allowance. Computer tablet provided. Membership of the EVA and AVA organisations. Uniforms.
