Scone Equine Hospital is seeking a permanent Equine Surgeon to join our internationally recognised surgical team in Scone, NSW. Applicants must hold, or be eligible to sit, appropriate qualifications to allow registration as an Australian Specialist in Equine Surgery, including FANZCVS, Dipl ACVS or Dipl ECVS.
About Scone Equine Group: Scone Equine Group (SEG) comprises Scone Equine Hospital, Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre, Avenel Equine Hospital, and Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre. We are the largest equine veterinary group in the Southern Hemisphere, employing approximately 70 equine veterinarians during the breeding season. The Group boasts an internationally recognised team of veterinarians, including 9 specialists in Equine Surgery, 6 specialists in Equine Medicine and 2 Theriogenologists. SEG is internationally recognised for clinical excellence, innovation, and leadership in equine veterinary care.

Surgical Service: Scone Equine Hospital provides a 24-hour referral and emergency surgical service, managing over 2,000 surgical procedures annually, making it one of the busiest equine surgical facilities in Australia. Our surgical unit is supported by:
- Registered Specialists and highly experienced equine surgeons
- Dedicated veterinary anaesthetists
- Five Interns and one surgical fellow
- A surgery coordinator
- Highly experienced nursing staff
Our surgeons regularly present internationally and are actively involved in advancing equine surgical techniques. Recent innovations include the use of absorbable screws in foals and new corrective limb deviation techniques.
Facilities & Equipment: Our state-of-the-art surgical facility includes:
- Several operating theatres/spaces to accommodate multiple surgeries at any given time
- Five recovery rooms, offering rope-assisted recoveries from general anaesthesia
- Fully equipped to perform internal fixation, including the latest locking screw technology, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, video endoscopy, and diode laser
- Advanced anaesthetic monitoring supported by the latest equipment – ECG, capnography, invasive and non-invasive BP, blood gas analysis, ventilators
Team and Role: The successful applicant will join a team of five permanent equine surgeons, sharing an after-hours roster. You will work alongside experienced colleagues committed to mentorship, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
