Scone Equine Group is seeking a permanent Anaesthetist to join our internationally recognised team in Scone, NSW. Applicants must hold a veterinary qualification to be fully registered as a veterinarian in New South Wales, Australia. Experience in equine anaesthesia is necessary and experience in small animal anaesthesia is advantageous. Preference would be given for a board certified or board qualified anaesthetist.

Scone Equine Group (SEG) comprises Scone Equine Hospital, Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre, Avenel Equine Hospital, and Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre. We are the largest equine veterinary group in the Southern Hemisphere, employing up to approximately 70 equine and 7 companion animal veterinarians. The Group boasts an internationally recognised team including 9 specialists in Equine Surgery, 6 specialists in Equine Medicine and 2 Theriogenologists. It starts with a personal relationship between our team and our clients and is built on our commitment to research and continuing education for the care of their horse. Scone Equine Hospital provides a 24‐hour referral and emergency surgical service, managing over 2,000 surgical procedures annually, making it the busiest equine hospital in Australia.

Facilities & Equipment

Our brand new state‐of‐the‐art surgical facility includes:

  • Two sterile surgical suites, one large general surgery area and a standing surgery room
  • Five recovery rooms offering rope‐assisted recoveries from general anaesthesia
  • Dedicated anaesthesia preparation crush
  • Advanced anaesthetic monitoring supported by the latest equipment – (ECG, capnography, invasive and non‐invasive BP, blood gas analysis, ventilators)
  • Diagnostic imaging capabilities include digital radiography, ultrasound, resting video and dynamic endoscopy and Qalibra Exceed Large Bore Computed Tomography unit.
  • Equipment to perform advanced orthopedic internal fixation, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, shockwave and diode laser.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to lead a team of 4‐5 clinical anaesthetists in Scone and provide support to other areas of Scone Equine Group in developing anaesthesia procedures and protocols and training. There are documented anaesthesia protocols and procedures currently in place that will provide a framework to follow and build on in time. There is a shared afterhours roster of approximately 1 in 4. You will work alongside experienced colleagues committed to collaboration and clinical excellence.
