As a Sport Coach Apprentice, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality coaching and education experiences that motivate, develop, and inspire learners. You will work alongside academy staff, coaches, and educators to assist with planning, delivering, and evaluating sports coaching programmes that align to the SCL philosophy and apprenticeship standards. This apprenticeship combines hands-on coaching experience with structured off-the-job learning leading toward an industry-recognised qualification.
Coaching & Delivery
- Assist in planning and delivering engaging, safe, inclusive, and progressive sports coaching sessions as part of the Academy programme.
- Support the Academy Manager and coaching staff to deliver an ‘outstanding’ coaching programme consistent with SCL’s philosophy and curriculum goals.
- Contribute to the organisation and delivery of competitive fixtures, events, and youth engagement activities.
- Promote active participation and healthy lifestyles among learners and participants.
Learner Support & Engagement
- Work with learners to support engagement in both practical coaching and classroom learning.
- Provide additional support or adaptations for learners with diverse needs as required.
- Help monitor and record learner development and progress in sport and coaching competencies.
Administration & Compliance
- Support with session preparation, equipment setup, and safe storage.
- Complete administrative tasks including session evaluation, attendance tracking, and reports on learner progress.
- Ensure compliance with all organisational policies including Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Child Protection training.
- Represent SCL at recruitment events such as open days, school visits, and parents’ evenings.
Professional Development
- Engage with ongoing CPD to stay current with best practice in coaching and sport education.
- A genuine passion for sport, coaching and working with young people.
- FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate (UEFA C) or equivalent coaching qualification.
- First Aid Certificate.
- FA Safeguarding Certificate.
- Ability to adapt coaching to learner needs and contexts.
- Commitment to high professional standards and continuous development.
- Minimum FA Level 2 Coaching Certificate (UEFA C) or equivalent coaching qualification.
- FA Youth Awards.
- Degree in Sports Science, Sports Coaching, Education or related discipline.
- Experience of video analysis or performance review.
