The Role
We are currently seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Junior Automation Project Engineer to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a background or formal training in automation engineering who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and forward‑thinking organisation. Based at our Head Office in Godalming, this permanent, full‑time role will involve supporting the automation engineering team in the development and delivery of automation projects across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life sciences sectors. The successful candidate will gain valuable hands‑on experience working alongside experienced engineers on technically challenging and highly regulated projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting Senior Engineers with the development and execution of automation and related engineering activities.
- Supporting the design and specification of PLC/SCADA control systems for client companies.
- Technical management of control system and other supplier companies to ensure systems developed meet the design requirements.
- Assisting with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
- Supporting interface activities across automation, electrical and data/IT systems.
- Contributing to project reviews covering cost, programme, progress, quality, compliance, and constructability.
- Ensuring adherence to safety, cost, programme, and quality requirements.
- Complying with company QA and engineering standards.
- Some knowledge or experience of PLC/SCADA control systems.
- Understanding of control system lifecycle activities including design, implementation, testing, and commissioning.
- Experience of Factory and/or Site Acceptance Testing of control systems.
- Familiarity with software development processes and QA requirements.
- IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to produce accurate and concise technical documentation and schedules.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Awareness of time, cost, quality, and relationship management principles.
- A clear enthusiasm to develop a career in automation engineering.

- Degree or Master’s level qualification in Automation, Electrical, Control Systems, or a related engineering discipline (preferred).
- Similar apprenticeships or work experience considered.
