Health, Safety & Environmental Manager – New Build Energy from Waste

West Bromwich, West Midlands

SCINERGY Recruitment are recruiting for a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to join a new Energy from Waste power station in West Bromwich. Currently progressing through the final stages of construction and commissioning, the facility will process approximately 395,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste each year and generate 44MW of electricity—enough to power more than 95,000 homes.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the site before it becomes fully operational, helping to establish the HSE systems, build the team and shape a positive health, safety and environmental culture from the outset.

The role will involve:

  • Managing and maintaining the site's Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems
  • Promoting a positive safety culture and embedding behavioural safety across the facility
  • Ensuring compliance with the Environmental Permit and all associated regulatory reporting requirements
  • Managing environmental monitoring programmes, including CEMS, QAL2, QAL3, AST, extractive monitoring and water discharge requirements
  • Supporting the management of Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work procedures
  • Conducting site inspections, internal audits and external facility audits
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual HSE, ESG and KPI reports
  • Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, completing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Liaising with external bodies, including the Environment Agency and local authorities
  • Reviewing operational and environmental data to identify trends, risks and potential plant defects
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, environmental obligations and relevant ISO standards

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Experience in a similar HSE role within Energy from Waste, power generation or another highly regulated process environment - paper production, cement, steel, chemical production
  • A relevant health and safety or environmental qualification, ideally NEBOSH, a degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience managing Environmental Permit
