SCINERGY Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Day Operations Support Technician to join the operations team at an Energy from Waste power station in Exeter. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established Energy from Waste facility in a key operational support role. The Day Operations Support Technician will support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant, working closely with the operations and maintenance teams to maximise plant availability, process performance and environmental compliance.

The role will involve supporting day-to-day operations across the site, acting as Senior Authorised Person, managing safe systems of work and providing operational cover for shift teams during periods of holiday, absence or training.

The Role

  • Supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Energy from Waste power station
  • Monitoring plant performance, supporting trend analysis and helping maximise process efficiency, waste throughput and energy output
  • Supporting operation of boilers, steam turbines, pumps, water treatment plant, heat exchangers and associated auxiliary systems via DCS and field-based checks
  • Providing cover for Shift Operations Technicians and Shift Team Leaders during periods of holiday, absence or training
  • Supervising contractors and ensuring site activities are carried out safely and to the required standard
  • Supporting shutdown, outage and maintenance activities to help minimise downtime and maximise plant availability
  • Working closely with operations and maintenance teams to identify plant issues, support first-line fault finding and escalate defects where required
  • Supporting team briefings, communication across the site and continuous improvement activities
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out with the highest regard for health, safety, environmental compliance and site procedures

About You

You will ideally have:

  • Operations or maintenance experience gained within a heavy process environment involving high-pressure steam, such as Energy from Waste, power generation, CHP, biomass, chemical, refinery or similar process plant
  • Experience working with boilers, steam turbines, pumps, water treatment plant, heat exchangers or associated process equipment
  • Experience using DCS systems and/or carrying out field-based operational monitoring
  • A good understanding of safe systems of work, permits to work, LOTO and site health and safety procedures
  • Senior Authorised Person experience, or the ability to work towards SAP responsibilities
  • Experience supervising contractors and supporting operational teams
  • Experience using maintenance management systems would be beneficial
  • A relevant engineering qualification, such as NVQ, City & Guilds, ONC, HNC, apprenticeship or equivalent is beneficial but not essential
  • Strong communication, organisational and reporting skills
  • Merchant Navy or Royal Navy engineers with watchkeeping experience will also be considered
