SCINERGY Recruitment are looking for a Control Room Operator / Production Technician to join the operations team at a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station on the south coast. This is a shift-based operational role responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of a modern power station, using both DCS systems and field-based monitoring to optimise performance and ensure plant availability. The role sits within a structured operations team and works closely with the Production Team Leader to deliver day-to-day operations and continuous improvement across the station.
Key responsibilities:
- Operate the plant safely and efficiently in line with operational targets and site procedures
- Support the Production Team Leader in all production activities
- Start, stop and monitor gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, pumps and auxiliary systems via DCS
- Diagnose plant issues, analyse performance and carry out first-line fault finding
- Conduct operational routines, plant testing and performance checks
- Undertake maintenance tasks within competence and escalate defects where required
- Supervise contractors and ensure safe working practices on site
- Support implementation of company and station policies and ensure full HSE compliance
- Carry out safety, behavioural and compliance audits on contractors and site staff
- Communicate with management and National Grid to support REMIT obligations and load profile requirements
- Participate in improvement projects and ongoing technical development
Candidate requirements:
- Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation or similar engineering discipline or willingness to work towards this
- At least 2 years’ experience in a relevant industrial or power generation environment (CCGT, CHP, refinery, chemical, etc.)
- Merchant Navy / Royal Navy engineers considered (Petty Officer / 2nd Engineer level or above with watchkeeping experience)
- Strong understanding of HSE legislation and safe systems of work
- Ability to support multi-discipline teams with diagnostics and work planning
- Strong analytical and fault-finding skills, able to perform under pressure
- Computer literate with good communication and reporting ability
- Organised, self-motivated and comfortable working on a 12-hour shift pattern
Package:
- Competitive basic salary up to £48,000
- A shift allowance of £12,500
