Senior Counsel delivers comprehensive legal support on a global scale for the organization, efficiently addressing complex legal issues raised by SCIEX business partners. Analyzes evolving legal topics and provides guidance that integrates legal risk management with the strategic objectives of SCIEX and drives global legal strategy by drafting and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance across jurisdictions, and leading risk mitigation initiatives. Partners with HR, Finance, Commercial, and Operations to resolve disputes and prevent legal issues. Oversees IP protection, manages external counsel, and delivers staff training on key legal topics. Expertise spans employment law, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and litigation management—aligning legal safeguards with business priorities. A critical responsibility: spearheading the organization’s data privacy program to ensure robust compliance and protect sensitive information worldwide. This position reports to the VP General Counsel and is part of the SCIEX Legal & Compliance Department located in Marlborough, MA USA.
In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To:
- Draft and negotiate various general and sophisticated commercial agreements (with a concentration in EMEAI for commercial sales agreements);
- Advise on complex legal matters, including antitrust, employment, bankruptcy, clinical, and data privacy issues;
- Manage litigation and government investigations with the support of local/external counsel;
- Actively contribute to the creation and implementation of Legal Department processes and policies;
- Represent the Legal function in various leadership meetings and actively contribute to the development and good business conduct of SCIEX EMEAI commercial business;
- Lead the organization’s data privacy program to ensure adherence to global data protection regulations;
- Manage a team of at least one junior legal team member.
The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include:
- At least 7+ years of practice as an attorney within a nationally recognized law firm and in‑house, preferably within the life sciences industry. Global experience is a plus.
- Excellent academic credentials and a qualified lawyer.
- Experience with managing other lawyers and/or paralegals.
- Excellent leadership qualities, including strategic thinking capability, attention to mentoring and development of other team members, and care and thoughtfulness about team building.
- Substantial deal and negotiation experience with track record of leadership in executed transactions (e.g., partnership, collaboration, licensing, M&A, research agreements).
- Demonstrated positive attitude, ability to work with others, and desire to learn.
- A team player with a "can do" attitude who can work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple projects.
- Energetic, outgoing, self‑motivated and constructive in approach, flexible and adaptable to work in a complex, global, cross‑functional environment and able to build relationships.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to travel globally as needed, up to 20% of the time.
