We are seeking an Electrochemist with a background in electrochemical biosensors and/or electrochemistry to join a highly specialised R&D team developing next-generation implantable biosensing technology. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced electrochemist with expertise in electrochemical sensing systems, sensor characterisation, and experimental electrochemistry to play a key role within an innovative deep-tech healthcare company developing implantable monitoring technology.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will lead investigations into the modelling, performance, and suitability of electrochemical sensing technologies within complex biological environments. The role offers significant scientific depth, technical autonomy, and the opportunity to influence the development of emerging healthcare technologies with meaningful long-term impact.

As an Electrochemist – Biosensing, you will lead technical investigations into electrochemical sensing technologies for implantable monitoring systems, combining theoretical modelling, experimental research, and practical laboratory investigation to evaluate sensor performance within biologically relevant environments.

Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Experimental characterisation and evaluation of electrochemical sensing technologies
  • Investigation, modelling, and experimental evaluation of transducers, reference electrodes, and measurement circuitry
  • Design and delivery of experimental test rigs and laboratory set-ups
  • Modelling and simulation of sensor transducers and associated circuitry
  • Experimental design, verification testing, and performance characterisation
  • Scientific programming and data analysis using tools such as Matlab and Python
  • Interpretation and presentation of evidence-based research findings
  • Generation of technical reports, invention disclosures, and intellectual property
  • Supplier engagement and procurement of research prototypes and components
  • Supporting and mentoring junior researchers within the team

The successful candidate will be expected to approach problems from first principles, work with a high degree of autonomy, and contribute to technically challenging research activities spanning sensor science, electrochemistry, electronics, modelling, and biological systems.

To be considered for this role, you will likely have:

Knowledge & Experience
  • A PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Electrochemistry, or a related scientific discipline
  • At least 5 years’ experience within practical research or advanced R&D environments
  • A strong track record of scientific contribution, evidenced through publications, patents, or technology development
  • Demonstrable experience translating research into applied or commercially relevant technologies
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of electrochemical biosensors and electrochemistry
  • Experience with electronic simulation and modelling software such as SPICE, Altium, or Verilog-A
  • Experience designing and conducting robust experimental investigations and laboratory-based research
  • Experience analysing complex datasets and drawing evidence-based conclusions
