We are looking for a Press and PR Manager to join our Communications Team on a permanent basis. Working across the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon, you will be responsible for managing and delivering all press and PR activity.

From launching new exhibitions and managing major media enquiries, to delivering high-profile campaigns and working with one of the world\’s most famous locomotives, Flying Scotsman, this is a rewarding and exciting role. You\’ll work closely with colleagues across the Science Museum Group to tell authentic stories, build our reputation and raise awareness of our museums with audiences around the world.

This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Your home site will be the National Railway Museum, with regular travel to Locomotion.

About you

You\’ll have well-established media contacts and know how to use both traditional and digital platforms to secure wide-reaching and impactful coverage.

You\’ll be skilled at working efficiently, handling multiple priorities and acting as a trusted point of contact for the press, including during urgent or sensitive situations. Experience of managing media visits, press events and film crews will also be valuable.

Great communication skills are essential – you\’ll be comfortable writing impactful press releases, briefing spokespeople, and building positive relationships with journalists, colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

Most importantly, you will bring creativity, collaboration and a keen passion for sharing the unique stories of our museums.
