Full-time, Permanent 40 hours per week Central Bristol (BS2): working across three nearby sites

Salary: £28,000 - £31,000 per annum

Reports to: Facilities Manager

A driving licence is not necessary.

The Role

As a Maintenance Operative you will play an active part in helping with the smooth running of the Science Creates laboratory facilities in central Bristol (BS2). Working as part of the facilities team, this is a hands-on role suiting someone with a diverse range of practical skills, with some days needing you to turn your hand to a bit of plumbing and other days needing you to investigate a fault with an AHU, or tend to the buildings grounds.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintaining a high standard of presentation of the buildings and grounds, carrying out repairs, maintenance and improvements as required (e.g. carpentry, decorating, basic plumbing, minor electrical, landscaping)
  • Proactive and Reactive Maintenance of equipment (e.g. AHU filter changes, cleaning water break tanks)
  • Carrying out statutory checks (fire alarm, emergency lights, legionella etc) and maintaining accurate records of these
  • Building keyholder responsibilities
  • Organising and liaising with external contractors when required

What skills & experience will you need to have as a Maintenance Operative?

  • Previous experience in a maintenance oriented role with a diverse range of practical skills including the use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety (COSHH, Manual handling, Working at heights, PPE)
  • Reliable, independent, and initiative-driven showing good attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities
  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude to make a difference
  • Flexibility and willingness to work across our three central Bristol locations (all in BS2) when required
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends where required (Time Off In Lieu system) for disruptive works
  • Willingness to learn new skills and systems
  • Computer literacy with the ability to use word documents and spreadsheets
