Job Purpose and Background: The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) seeks a Progress Product Lead / Manager to shape and deliver the Progress Framework, SBTi's leading product for informing companies in all sectors and regions on the progress they are making towards net zero. This exciting role is pivotal for evolving SBTi's value proposition from ambition-setting to delivering actionable insight into real-world corporate transformation. Built on forward-looking indicators that reveal transition actions ahead of lagged emissions reporting, the SBTi Progress Framework tracks corporate transition implementation at company and system level. This role will enhance its impact through applying corporate product development craft to translate the Progress Framework's strategic ambition and technical methodology into a valuable, actionable peer benchmarking platform. This progress benchmarking product will privately reveal companies' relative positions in capital asset decarbonisation, low carbon energy procurement and supply and value chain decarbonisation, helping them to individually and collectively strengthen net zero emissions delivery.

The successful candidate will bring strong product experience and instincts and a delivery-focused, collaborative approach, working effectively across a five-person team and with pilot companies to translate methodology and technical requirements into a credible, high-impact product.

About the SBTi: The SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies worldwide to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. The SBTi defines and promotes best practices in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies' targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vision and roadmap: Define and drive the product vision and roadmap for the Progress Framework platform across Concept & Validation, Prototype, MVP, Pilot, and Launch. Own the stage-gate process and bring product perspective to trade-offs between methodology input, data availability and delivery.
  • Customer discovery: Lead structured discovery with pilot companies to validate demand and shape the product around real needs. Fold UX feedback into defined success metrics - completion rates, benchmarking accuracy, user adoption - per release and apply these to guide product iteration.
  • Methodology translation to corporate end-user need: Convert the Progress Framework's technical indicator design into a clear end-product specification, bringing credible domain expertise in corporate decarbonisation and carbon accounting to ground methodology design choices in real-world corporate practice.
  • Oversee progress data management: Ensure the progress data pipeline and outputs meet product needs, prioritising data requirements against the roadmap. Supervise and task the reporting Data Manager to build a flexible, AI-enabled data infrastructure that supports a credible, user-ready benchmark product while maintaining company data confidentiality.

Essential skills and experience needed:

  • Product development experience: Strong data-driven product development experience, having shaped and built a successful product, ideally within a startup or corporate innovation setting.
  • Startup or consultancy exposure: Experience in the startup world or management consultancy, demonstrating comfort operating in fast-paced, build-from-scratch environments.
  • Corporate exposure: Substantial corporate exposure, with a credible understanding of how large companies operate, make decisions, and engage with external reporting and standard-setting frameworks.
  • Analytical foundation: 5+ years of relevant professional experience, demonstrating comfort working with quantitative technical material. Formal analytical background or training - e.g. in science, engineering, or economics beneficial.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written, visual and verbal communication skills, comfortable working directly with technical and methodology experts and translating complex concepts for a corporate audience.

Important information before you apply: This is a full-time role based in London, with some flexibility for exceptional candidates that can frequently travel to London from elsewhere in the UK and Europe, with a salary dependent on experience. Interested candidates should be legally allowed to work in the specified countries and already be visa holders. The SBTi cannot sponsor working visas.

What we offer: Working in one of the most successful and fastest-growing initiatives driving climate action. Exciting and challenging tasks in a dynamic, international, innovative, and highly motivated team. Training and development. 30 days of time off, plus your country's public holidays.
