Job Purpose and Background
Are you passionate about securing the future of the planet by preventing catastrophic climate change? Do you want to apply your considerable creativity, energy, and digital expertise at the cutting edge of corporate climate action in one of the world’s fastest growing sustainability initiatives? The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has an exciting opportunity for a Software Test Engineer. Joining the growing digital function within the SBTi’s global operations team, you will collaborate closely with other teams to ensure that the SBTi technology infrastructure is well supported and service excellence is at the core of the organization.
About you
You have a strong understanding of software quality and enjoy building reliable, scalable testing systems across the full stack. You are highly structured and approach quality strategically, designing, implementing, and maintaining robust testing frameworks across frontend and backend applications. You are confident working with modern testing tools and AI‑assisted workflows to ensure comprehensive coverage and execution. You support delivery across defined phases by preparing, executing, and assuring testing, ensuring features meet requirements and releases meet high quality standards. You also contribute to UAT readiness, execution, and triage. You collaborate closely with engineers and external partners, finding effective ways to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle and ensure releases are stable, well‑tested, and maintainable. You take deep satisfaction in what you create and are motivated by delivering the right technical solutions to meet business needs. You thrive in a collaborative Agile environment where ideas and values are communicated clearly and respectfully. You are passionate about using your technical expertise to address climate change. English is the working language at SBTi, and the ability to communicate at a business‑fluent level is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Ownership of the end‑to‑end testing function, including building the testing practice from the ground up—defining processes, frameworks, documentation, and quality standards, and embedding them within the team’s development lifecycle.
- Review user stories, acceptance criteria, and designs to confirm scope is clear, complete, and testable.
- Identify risks, edge cases, and dependencies early.
- Create and execute test cases to provide appropriate functional, regression, integration and exploratory coverage based on product requirements and keeping it repeatable.
- Identify, document, and track defects, ensuring clear reproduction steps and severity assessment.
- Support defect triage, retest fixes, and validate resolution through to closure.
- Assist with UAT readiness (scenarios, data, guidance), support UAT queries and issue triage, and coordinate outcomes into clear actions for delivery teams.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and designers to clarify requirements and improve testability.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites (where applicable) to improve coverage and efficiency.
- Validate APIs and backend services, including request/response handling and data integrity.
- Ensure test coverage across critical user journeys and edge cases.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand‑ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and contribute to quality discussions.
- Provide accurate test status updates (progress, defects, risks).
- Contribute to quality gates and release readiness discussions.
Experience and Skills

- Ability to use prompt engineering to generate effective edge‑case scenarios and synthetic test data.
- Understanding of MCP servers and how to integrate them into development or testing workflows.

- Authority to own, define, and enforce the end‑to‑end testing process architecture for the team.
