Job Purpose and Background:
The Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative is looking for a Lead on Reporting, Claims and Assurance to support the implementation and operationalisation of the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard (CNZS) v2.0 and related technical products related to reporting, claims and assurance.
Following the launch of the CNZS V2, this role focuses on enabling its operationalization by supporting the development of supplementary normative and informative materials, and appropriate processes related to annual reporting, end-of-cycle progress assessment, and associated claims and assurance throughout the target cycle. Working across multiple teams, the role ensures technical consistency, usability and the effective implementation of the Standard.
This position will report to the Head of Corporate Standards Team
This role plays an important part in achieving:
- Publication of technical guidance and policies that enable companies, validation bodies and advisors to consistently interpret and apply the Corporate Net-Zero Standard CNZS V2 reporting and end-of-cycle assessment requirements.
- Publication of a technically robust SBTi Assurance Framework and SBTi Claims Policy aligned with the CNZS V2.
- Technical integration of reporting, end-of-cycle assessment, assurance and claims requirements across SBTi products, implementation resources, and capacity-building materials, enabling consistent application of the CNZS V2.
- Delivery of high-quality technical outputs and expert advice through effective cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement
You are a great fit for this role if you:
- Are passionate about advancing credible corporate climate action through robust standards and practical implementation.
- Have strong technical expertise in climate target-setting, GHG accounting, reporting frameworks, sustainability standard-setting or related fields.
- Enjoy translating complex technical requirements into clear, practical guidance and operational processes.
- Can manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality technical outputs and take ownership of complex projects and work proactively with limited supervision.
About the SBTi:
The SBTi has been incredibly successful in recent years, setting emissions reduction targets with around 11,000 globally. It has particularly extensive corporate networks in the United States, the UK, Europe and Asia. It is widely regarded as setting the Gold Standard for corporate climate action.
In the next phase, SBTi will evolve its approach, through target setting that better reflects corporate transition risks and opportunities; and working with companies at the system level on the implementation journey. This is set out in the SBTi’s recently published five-year strategy, to be implemented through the Corporate Net-ZeroStandard Version 2 and sector approaches currently under development.
Success in five years will be an expanded community of companies working to meet science-based targets, with particular growth opportunities in emissions intensive sectors, in Asia, and through supply chains that already have targets. The SBTi will also play a leading role facilitating learning about implementation of the corporate net-zero transition, together with identifying and addressing barriers to implementation through close working with partners.
The SBTi is an independent legal entity, registered as a charity in the UK. It is a mission driven organisation, with employees who are committed, professional and capable; there are just under 200 employees, with hubs in Mexico City, London and Berlin. Revenues are from a combination of commercial activity (i.e. payments for validation services) and philanthropic funding.
The CEO of the organisation is David Kennedy, who brings a twenty year track record of leadership and impact on energy and net-zero, in the UK, Europe and internationally. The Chair of the SBTi’s board is Francesco Starace, who was previously CEO of the Italian energy utility ENEL. The board includes representatives of partner organisations, together with members who bring business experience together with leaders of international climate action.
