Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a curious and proactive Internal Auditor with a passion for data analytics, automation and AI. You will combine strong analytical thinking with an understanding of risk and controls, using technology to enhance audit effectiveness and deliver meaningful insights. Working closely with colleagues across Internal Audit, Technology and the business, you will help drive innovation while maintaining a strong focus on audit quality, governance and professional standards.
About Schroders
We’re a global investment manager. We help institutions, intermediaries and individuals around the world invest money to meet their goals, fulfil their ambitions, and prepare for the future.
We have around 6,000 people on six continents. And we’ve been around for over 200 years, but keep adapting as society and technology changes. What doesn’t change is our commitment to helping our clients, and society, prosper.
The base
We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We’re close to our clients, in the heart of the UK’s financial centre and we have everything we need to work flexibly.
The team
The role of Group Internal Audit is to provide independent and objective challenge to, and assurance over, the Schroders Group’s control environment through effective evaluation of risk management, control and governance arrangements implemented by management.
As Schroders’ Internal Audit function has a global remit, the team has responsibility for the execution of audits in the UK and also other locations where needed. The team has a high profile, and the work undertaken is complex and often time pressured, and will, in many cases, have significant impact upon ongoing activities within the Group.
What you'll do
As a member of the Group Internal Audit team, you will support the delivery of audit assignments across the full audit lifecycle, including planning, fieldwork, reporting and issue tracking. You will apply data analytics, automation and AI-enabled solutions to enhance audit effectiveness, support risk assessment and provide meaningful insights to audit teams and business stakeholders.
Working closely with colleagues across Internal Audit, Technology and the wider business, you will help identify opportunities to improve audit processes through the effective use of data and emerging technologies. You will also contribute to the development and adoption of innovative audit tools and approaches, while maintaining a strong focus on audit quality, governance and professional standards.
You will be part of a collaborative and growing community of data, analytics and AI practitioners within Schroders. Supported by our Data Insights and AI Enablement functions, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the ongoing evolution of technology-enabled auditing. The role may require travel within the UK and internationally.
Responsibilities include:
Support the delivery of audit assignments across all stages of the audit lifecycle, including planning, fieldwork, reporting and issue tracking, ensuring work is completed in accordance with professional standards and Internal Audit methodology.
Perform data preparation, validation, mapping and analysis to support audit objectives, using tools such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI and, where appropriate, Python or SQL.
Present and explain analytical findings clearly to audit teams and business stakeholders, providing insight and context to support audit conclusions.
Contribute to special projects, investigations and other ad hoc assignments as required.
Support the development, testing and adoption of audit technology solutions using Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps, SharePoint Lists, Power BI and other approved tools.
Assist in the design, testing and documentation of AI-enabled audit agents, prompts, workflows and analytical outputs, ensuring assumptions, limitations and exceptions are appropriately captured.
Collaborate with Internal Audit colleagues, Technology teams and business stakeholders to define data requirements, obtain access to relevant data and support its effective use during audit engagements.
Identify opportunities to improve audit efficiency and effectiveness by translating manual processes and audit challenges into scalable, technology-enabled solutions.
Maintain reusable audit technology assets, including use case catalogues, testing records, prompt libraries, workflow documentation, user guidance and training materials.
Support training and knowledge-sharing activities across Group Internal Audit, helping colleagues develop their use of data analytics, automation and AI tools.
Contribute to Data Analytics and AI Working Group activities, sharing good practice, lessons learned and opportunities to drive adoption and innovation.
Build and maintain effective relationships across Schroders to stay informed of developments in audit technology, data analytics and AI-enabled audit practices.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
Understanding of internal audit, risk management, controls, assurance or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in data analytics, automation, AI and the practical application of technology within an internal audit, risk or assurance environment.
Ability to communicate analytical findings effectively, including through data visualisation, dashboards, reports and presentations using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
Strong Excel and data-handling skills, including the ability to work logically with data, identify completeness issues and document testing performed.
Experience with, or a strong willingness to develop capability in, Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, SharePoint Lists, Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot or similar low-code tools.
Ability to support the testing and validation of AI-enabled or automated outputs, including accuracy checks, source grounding, exception logging and the documentation of limitations.
Ability to prepare clear and concise user guidance, testing documentation, training materials and audit workpapers.
Ability to build effective working relationships with business stakeholders and management.
Willingness and ability to travel within the UK and internationally for up to 15% of the time.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Proficiency in additional languages spoken across the Schroders Group would be advantageous.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications that’ll help
Self-motivated and enthusiastic; with the ability to own and deliver assignments timely
Curious about technology and willing to learn new tools, while recognising that audit quality, evidence and judgement remain central
Willingness to self-improve, seek feedback and constantly striving for the highest quality insights and conclusions
