Waste and Recycling Support Officer

Pay rate: £15.31

Working hours: 37 Monday-Friday

Contract: Temporary (up to 5 months)

Location: Moat Lane Depot Solihull

Job Purpose

To support Solihull Council in increasing recycling participation, reducing contamination, promoting waste minimisation and preparing residents for changes arising from national Simpler Recycling requirements. The postholder will work directly with residents to provide support and advice to help residents make the transition to fortnightly refuse collections and to optimise use of the new food waste collection service and established recycling service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake door-to-door engagement with residents to improve understanding of waste and recycling services.
  • Reduce contamination in recycling containers.
  • Encourage food waste and recycling participation.
  • Promote waste reduction and reuse.
  • Carry out bin inspections, participation monitoring and recycling audits.
  • Provide practical advice and support to residents experiencing difficulties with waste collection or recycling services.
  • Support the waste and recycling officers to resolve enquiries and complaints related to all service issues.
  • Maintain accurate records using Council ICT systems.

Full UK driving licence would be advantageous for this role but not essential.

All offers will be subject to satisfactory compliance screening, including right to work in the UK and references.

If successful, candidates will be required to provide information to support the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's commitment to the prevention and detection of fraud. This information will be processed by the Council's Internal Audit Services and may be shared with the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) for data matching.
