We have a very exciting position as a Health & Safety Advisor with a prestigious organisation that operates across the county. This role is focused on H&S for a head office, but also workers out in the field. You will find yourself visiting various sites and conducting risk assessments on everything from vehicle shows to firework shows. This varied role will be perfect for someone looking to bring their strong varied experience to an organisation taking health and safety very seriously.

Role profile

This role is heavily focused on advising the organisations and its officers on all aspects of Health and Safety, including the development of corporate Health and Safety policies and related Action Plans. In this role you will be working across various areas including the head office to ensure that all H&S policies are being followed, helping to create plans, conducting risk assessments, annual reviews and much more.

Duties

  • Provide advice, support and training for Managers across the Authority in developing and implementing Service Level Health and Safety policies and related Action Plans.
  • Carry out inspections of high risk premises as required in line with the current codes of practice.
  • Investigate investigations into complaints and accidents. Take appropriate action as authorised by the organisation in accordance with procedures laid down.
  • Carry out an annual review of the Health, Safety and Welfare General Policy, suggesting updates/amendments as necessary and developing suitable Action Plans in response to the review.
  • Monitor progress with the Health and Safety Action Plan and provide support for Management Team and Service Managers with implementation of the corporate and service-level plans.
  • Arrange for Health and Safety Audits to be undertaken at regular intervals.
  • Provide advice in relation to health and safety issues to Joint Safety and Welfare Committee and ensure that the Management Team representative is appropriately briefed prior to each meeting.
  • Arrange and provide advice to the quarterly meetings of the Safety Sub-Groups.
  • Work closely with the Personnel Officer (Welfare) (based in Policy, Performance and Personnel) as required to ensure welfare related matters are reflected in the Health, Safety and Welfare General Policy.
  • Provide regular Health and Safety updates/briefings to Management Team.
  • Provide specialist input to relevant corporate projects and initiatives as necessary.
  • Monitor accident reports, carry out accident investigations and report to the Health and Safety Executive as required.
  • Compile annual accident report for Members.
  • Undertake detailed investigations and risk based audits of businesses, for Health and Safety, within the Borough to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, prepare reports, letters, notices, etc., and maintain records and statistics.

Qualifications (Who are we looking for?)

  • The successful candidate will hold qualifications in H&S ideally NEBOSH or similar.
  • Have wide experience and knowledge of health and safety legislation and associated issues.
  • 3+ years of practical experience of health and safety within an organisation that spans across office based and manual workers.
  • Experience of health and safety at events.
  • Full driving licence, access to a vehicle and a clean DBS.
