Assistant Head of House in Worthing

The role

Bohunt School Worthing seeks an outstanding and passionate Assistant Head of House to support the development of House identity, participation, celebration and belonging. This is a full-time, term-time-only position on pay scale 4A with a salary of £27,780 FTE (£24,147 actual). The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of House, SENDCo, safeguarding staff and external agencies, exercising professional judgement while building strong relationships with students and families. The post contributes to a positive, inclusive and aspirational culture within the House and commences in September 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a key pastoral contact for students and families within the House.
• Liaise with students, staff, families and external agencies regarding welfare concerns.
• Conduct welfare checks and follow-up support where necessary.
• Work closely with the safeguarding team to ensure students receive timely and appropriate support.
• Coordinate and monitor report cards and intervention plans.
• Develop positive and productive relationships with parents and carers.

Requirements

• Experience of working with children or young people in an educational, pastoral or safeguarding setting.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families and staff.
• Commitment to inclusion, student wellbeing and high expectations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Capacity to work collaboratively with a range of professionals and agencies.
• Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
