The role
Wellington School seeks an enthusiastic German Language Assistant to join the Modern Foreign Languages Department from September 2026. This permanent position is available on a full-time or part-time, term-time only basis. The successful candidate will support pupils language development by helping them build confidence, accuracy and fluency in spoken German through engaging and interactive practice.
Working alongside experienced teachers and fellow language assistants in French and Spanish, the role involves close collaboration in the classroom as well as in small group and one-to-one sessions. The position may be residential, with accommodation and meals provided.
Key responsibilities
- Support German language learning across Key Stages 3 to 5
- Lead speaking practice in small groups and one-to-one sessions
- Work collaboratively with Modern Foreign Languages teachers in and out of the classroom
- Support revision, intervention and enrichment activities
- Help develop pupils confidence, fluency and cultural awareness
- Contribute to a positive, engaging and ambitious language-learning environment
Requirements
- German as a first language with excellent spoken and written fluency
- Strong communication skills in English
- Confidence working with young people aged 11 to 18
- An engaging, energetic and supportive approach to language learning
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness
- Good IT skills and a collaborative mindset
- Enthusiasm for education and working as part of a team
