About the school


Chelsea Hall School is an outstanding Independent Special School for students aged 4-11 with mild to moderate, complex learning needs. The school is part of the Cavendish Group, a unique collection of independent day and boarding schools. Staff work closely with colleagues across the group and are encouraged to think differently and adopt creative approaches to teaching.


The role


We are seeking an energetic primary school SEN teacher to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and committed to providing the best possible educational support.


You will work in close partnership with teachers, therapists, teaching assistants and parents.


The ideal applicant will have experience working with children who have social, emotional and mental health needs. A calm, patient approach and the ability to engage well with pupils are essential. Experience of positive behaviour management and behaviour de-escalation is crucial.


Working hours are 8.00am to 4.30pm, 40 weeks per year. The start date is 24th August 2026.


Key responsibilities



  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to a small class of up to 6 pupils in accordance with the school’s curriculum framework and policies.

  • Monitor, record and report on pupils’ progress.

  • Maintain pupils’ Individual Educational Plans and update them on a half-termly basis.

  • Promote the physical, educational and moral development of students.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of an environment and programme of learning that ensures appropriate progression for each pupil.

  • Make effective use of class teaching assistants, ensuring they understand their responsibilities, complete work to a high standard and produce appropriate resources.

  • Organise the classroom, resources and displays to create a stimulating and supportive learning environment.

  • Support teaching assistants in updating and reviewing pupils’ profiles and behaviour plans.

  • Work with and manage challenging behaviour to reduce its occurrence and help pupils develop effective strategies.

  • Play a full part in the school’s multi-professional team and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.

  • Maintain regular communication with parents, colleagues and external agencies to ensure individual pupil needs are met.

  • Safeguard all students and ensure their safety and wellbeing.

  • Participate in training and take responsibility for personal development.

  • Ensure good preparation for and participation in team meetings, parent meetings, curriculum evenings, IEP meetings and annual reviews of EHCP meetings.

  • Support IT integration into the curriculum and provide IT admin support for the school.


Requirements



  • Experience working with children who have social, emotional and mental health needs.

  • Calm, patient approach with the ability to engage effectively with pupils.

  • Experience of positive behaviour management and behaviour de-escalation.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide at least two satisfactory references.


Benefits & package



  • Salary of £37,000 to £51,000 per year.

  • Working hours of 8.00am to 4.30pm, 40 weeks per year.
