Visiting Teacher of Speech and Drama in Oxford

The role

St Edward’s Oxford is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Visiting Teacher of Speech and Drama to inspire pupils and help them develop their confidence, communication skills and theatrical ability. Hours are two evenings per week, working between 4.30pm and 9.00pm, with specific hours to be agreed at the beginning of each term.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging weekly Speech and Drama lessons to pupils individually or in pairs, incorporating vocal and physical warm‑ups, text work, improvisation and performance technique.
• Support pupils working towards LAMDA examinations, predominantly across grades 5 to 8, and help them prepare for performances while developing wider acting and public‑speaking skills.
• Plan your own weekly timetable around pupil availability, set ambitious but appropriate targets and produce termly reports outlining pupils’ progress and future development.
• Encourage pupils to follow individual pathways, whether achieving a first LAMDA grade, progressing towards Grade 8 or diploma‑level qualifications, developing repertoire or performing in School presentation evenings.

Requirements

• Experience of teaching young people and the ability to enthuse pupils about Speech and Drama.
• A teaching or performance diploma, or equivalent experience, together with a good understanding of the LAMDA syllabus.
• Excellent communication skills, confidence working independently and the ability to set clear targets that encourage pupils to fulfil their potential.
