Our campus, located adjacent to the Glasgow School of Art and close to the Royal Conservatoire, places the College firmly within the cultural and intellectual life of the city. The College has a proud tradition of academic excellence, with results that consistently place us among the highest performing schools in Scotland. Demand for places remains strong, particularly at key entry points.
The Classics and Latin Department is exceptional within the College, consistently achieving outstanding results and proving popular with students and parents alike. Latin and Classical Studies are taught to all pupils in S1 and as an option in S2. In S1, the Cambridge Latin Course is used to introduce pupils to the Latin language and life in the ancient Roman world. As they progress into S2, they continue to discover the classical world with a bespoke Latin and Classical Studies course based on the Trojan War and the Adventures of Odysseus. Both Latin and Classical Studies are popular choices at all certificated levels (National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher), with outstanding examination results.
This is an exciting opportunity to teach both Latin and Classical Studies at all levels (S1-Advanced Higher). The successful candidate will be expected to play a full part in all areas of the department, including developing high-quality resources, ensuring effective teaching and learning, and participating in wider achievement.
You will be passionate about motivating young people and ensure that teaching and learning is innovative and progressive, leading to exceptional outcomes for our young people. Staff are encouraged to develop lessons that will inspire and motivate pupils to reach their full potential. The successful candidate would be expected to pursue a variety of pedagogical approaches in class and develop resources to support lessons and courses.
St Aloysius’ College places safeguarding of its pupils as its highest priority. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate qualification checks, advanced PVG clearance and have satisfactory references in place. Appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment questions will form part of the selection process.
