About the Role
School Staffing Solutions are recruiting two Maintenance Technicians on behalf of an independent provider of education and care for children with special needs. Our client is opening a brand-new SEND Secondary School in September 2025 in Surrey for young people aged 11–16 with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing needs, typically associated with Autism.
You will play a key role in ensuring the school buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, supporting the safety, well-being and learning environment of pupils and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance, repairs and inspections of buildings, grounds and equipment.
- Manage and respond to maintenance requests using online ticketing systems.
- Support with planned maintenance, record findings, and take action where required.
- Maintain safe storage and use of tools, materials and chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance, mileage auditing and safe transport procedures.
- Assist with the movement of furniture, equipment and deliveries as directed.
- Promote energy efficiency and sustainable working practices.
- Build strong working relationships with staff, pupils and stakeholders.
- Be flexible to work occasional unsociable hours when needed.
About You
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in site or building maintenance.
- Full UK Driving Licence and own transport (school not accessible by public transport).
- Understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
- Experience in basic repairs, decorating, carpentry, plumbing or similar trades.
- Confident using IT systems for audits and maintenance records.
- Mechanical knowledge or basic machine maintenance experience.
Desirable:
- D1 Driving Licence, First Aid, or H&S qualifications (e.g. Working at Height, COSHH, Manual Handling).
- Additional trade or technical skill (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.).
- Awareness of environmental factors (wildlife, nesting seasons, etc.).
