Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Porter/Housekeeper to join its Hotel Services team at Roseberry Park Hospital. This is a full-time, permanent role at Band 2 (Agenda for Change), offering the chance to provide essential cleaning and catering services that directly support patient recovery and wellbeing.

Salary: £24,465 per annum (Band 2, Agenda for Change)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-Time (between 6:00am–6:00pm, including weekends and bank holidays)

Role Overview

The Porter/Housekeeper will deliver cleaning and catering services across office, patient, and communal areas, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. This role is ideal for individuals with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide cleaning and catering services across Trust facilities
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and safety in patient and communal areas
  • Operate motorised cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners)
  • Prepare and serve food, including safe use and cleaning of regeneration ovens
  • Carry out laundry duties (washing and ironing)
  • Interact compassionately with patients and carers
  • Promote a positive image of Hotel Services and the wider Trust
  • Participate in quality improvement activities

Required Skills and Experience

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to complete within 12 months)
  • Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
  • Experience using cleaning materials and equipment
  • Experience working or volunteering in a mental health or learning disabilities environment
  • Experience in portering
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to follow protocols and instructions
  • NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping or equivalent
  • Experience cleaning in a hospital environment
  • Knowledge of National Standards of Cleanliness and PLACE assessments
  • Knowledge of deep-cleaning procedures
