The North Yorkshire and York Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Crisis Team is recruiting Community Support Workers/Trainees to join their fast‑paced service. This is a Band 3, permanent, full‑time role supporting young people experiencing mental health crisis and emotional distress. The team provides crisis assessments and enhanced support to reduce hospital admissions, offering evidence‑based interventions and creative engagement with young people and families.
Community Support Workers/Trainees will support qualified staff in delivering crisis care, including community and hospital visits, enhanced support sessions, and documentation. The role requires compassion, resilience, and flexibility, with opportunities to contribute to service development and personal progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Support qualified staff with community/hospital visits
- Answer calls from professionals and families, offering advice with staff support
- Deliver enhanced crisis support sessions under care plans
- Document referrals and contacts on patient electronic records
- Liaise with partner agencies and signpost/refer young people to appropriate services
- Provide calm, compassionate support in challenging clinical situations
- Travel independently across the locality to meet service demands
Eligibility Requirements
Essential:
- Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 or equivalent (or willingness to enrol and complete within agreed timeframe)
- Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or equivalent
- Care Certificate (to be achieved within 12 weeks if trainee)
- Ability to complete Trust Healthcare Assistant competencies within probation (6 months)
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Compassionate, flexible, and team‑oriented
- Ability to travel independently with access to a suitable vehicle
Desirable:
- Previous experience as Band 2/3 HCA or equivalent in a care environment
- Experience working with people with mental/social health needs or learning disabilities
- Knowledge of person‑centred care and mental health legislation
