Weightmans’ Casualty team provides a full, expert service in defending public (PL) and employers’ liability (EL) claims across the private and public sector. We are second‑to‑none in providing defendant litigation services in these and other specialist casualty areas. Operating on a national basis, we have dedicated commercial insurance and public sector teams, and a specialized Casualty Fraud team.

We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor with 0‑3 PQE to join our dedicated Sports Team in London. Working in a dedicated Sports Team, you will assist Partners and Principal Associates in the defence of a wide range of high‑value, high‑profile claims on behalf of sports governing bodies, competitors, sports clubs, and their insurers. Your tasks will include:

  • Significant disclosure and document reviews (including e‑Discovery)
  • Preparing witness statements
  • Conducting legal and factual research
  • Drafting instructions to counsel and experts
  • Preparing client reports
  • Attending court hearings
  • Responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries

As a Solicitor you will also ensure compliance with Weightmans and client policies and procedures and consistently work in accordance with our values.

About You

You should have previous experience and a genuine, demonstrable interest in this area of work. The role requires a flexible approach and the ability to adapt to varied tasks. Experience of assisting with EL/PL personal injury claims is essential; experience of handling your own casualty caseload is desirable; a genuine interest in sport and sports‑related claims; knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules; good written and verbal communication skills; good attention to detail; good interpersonal skills; good time‑management and organisational skills; proficient IT skills; ability to multi‑task, prioritise and work to strict deadlines; ability to work effectively in a team environment and on your own initiative.
