Support Worker in Bangor

Applications are invited for the above temporary, part time post (10 hours per week) working in Tir Na N'og Nursery. Duties will include supporting a child with Additional Learning Needs to complete daily tasks independently and safely. Candidates should hold an NVQ level 2 in childcare and have previous experience of working with young children in a nursery setting. Experience of working with ALN children is also essential. The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible, and the post is available until 17th July 2026. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post. This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. This role will be located at Tir Na N'og Nursery, Bangor.

Purpose of the Job: We are looking to appoint a person to support a child with Additional Learning Needs at the Nursery. They will be responsible for ensuring the child's safety and understanding of instructions. They will participate in the room's activities, taking small groups to complete tasks with additional support. They will also be responsible for collecting information and reporting to the room staff about how the child is developing and reaching milestones, thus allowing the staff to prepare detailed assessments and reports on their progress. They will also liaise with the child's parents on occasions, reporting on their time at the nursery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supporting a child with ALN to carry out tasks safely
• Working towards achieving targets set out by SENCO
• Working alongside nursery staff to prepare suitable activities
• Reporting on child's progress and development
• Liaising with parents about child's day at nursery

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications/Training:

• Level 2 in childcare qualification and willing to work towards level 3.

Desirable:

• Safeguarding certificate.
• First aid certificate.

Experience/Knowledge:

Essential:

• Previous experience of caring for/or working with children ages from birth to five years old in a voluntary or paid capacity, including those with ALN.
• An awareness of and some understanding of the importance of health and safety and food hygiene in the workplace.

Desirable:

• An understanding of the foundation phase curriculum.
• Knowledge of the national standards for the regulation of childcare provision.

Essential Skills/Abilities:

• Good communication skills with children, colleagues, advisors and parents/carers.
• Patience, empathy with children and adults.
• A positive approach to inclusive practice with children and colleagues.
• Enthusiasm with working with young children.

Desirable:

• Able to work in small teams.
• Good organisational record and planning skills.

Essential:

• A positive approach to gaining new skills through team work and training opportunities.
• A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare.
• To be prepared to undertake other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the senior nursery nurse/manager.
