We are looking to recruit a permanent, part‑time (20 hours per week) Nursery Nurse to join the team at Tir Na Nog. The role will support children from birth to five years, working as part of a key worker team.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children.
- Support other personnel within the day‑care centre.
- Implement the daily routine appropriate to the room (e.g., the baby room).
- Operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range in conjunction with other staff.
- Support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
- Work with parents/carers of special needs children to give full integration in the setting.
- Keep a proper record of achievement files for key children for parents/carers.
- Liaise and support parents/carers and other family members.
- Be involved with activities in and out of working hours (training, monthly staff meetings, fundraising, etc.).
- Be flexible within working practices of the setting.
- Help where needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs within the setting.
- Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.
- Record accidents in the accident book, ensuring the manager initialises the report before the parent receives it.
- Consider the setting as a whole and use your help where it can be most utilised.
- Always be aware of the needs of the children to ensure every child is collected by someone known to the setting.
- Respect the confidentiality of information received.
- Develop your role within the team, especially with regard to the key worker position.
- Prepare and complete activities to suit the child’s stage of development.
- Ensure that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.
- Ensure washing and changing of children as required.
- Provide comfort and warmth to an ill child.

- Qualifications/Training: Level 2 in childcare qualification, willing to work towards Level 3.
- Experience/Knowledge: Previous experience caring for or working with children ages birth to five years in a voluntary or paid capacity.
- Knowledge of the national standards for the regulation of childcare provision.
- Awareness of health and safety and food hygiene importance.
- Good organisational record and planning skills.
- Good communication skills with children, colleagues, advisors and parents/carers.
- Patience, empathy with children and adults.
