Applications are invited for two permanent, part‑time (15 hours per week) Multi‑Tasked Facilities Operatives working within the Facilities Section of Bangor University.
Duties include:
- Cleaning
- Portering
- Litter picking
- Waste removal
- Meeting room set‑ups, using appropriate equipment and PPE
Candidates should hold a BICSc Licence to Practice Card or be willing to work toward achieving it within an agreed timeframe. Candidates should have a basic level of literacy in Welsh or English and be physically fit to perform the duties. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable. The successful candidate will begin as soon as possible.
Purpose of the Job:
The post holder will provide a range of services across the University estate to maintain appropriate facilities for students, staff and visitors.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- The post-holder will use handheld technology or tablets to receive and update job progress.
- The post-holder may be required to undertake specialist cleaning duties such as carpet cleaning, power‑hosing and high‑level window cleaning. Appropriate training and PPE will be provided.
- The post-holder may be required to undertake general maintenance duties such as fixing toilet seats or door locks. Training and PPE will be provided.
- The post-holder may support the Security Section on occasions, for example, car‑park duties for events, acting as fire marshals or access/cordon guards in emergencies, with appropriate training.
- The post-holder will liaise with the line manager to ensure the service operates cohesively and issues are raised and resolved.
- The post-holder will work across the university estate; locations will depend on operational requirements.
- There are regular fixed shifts from Monday to Friday early‑morning shift through to weekend shift. All post holders will work on pre‑scheduled key weekends such as student residential clean‑down.
- The post-holder will use trolleys, a tail‑lift on a vehicle and floor‑maintenance equipment such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, polishers and scrubber/dryers. Cleaning materials, products and COSHH information will be provided.
- The post-holder will report maintenance or specialist cleaning requirements to the shift leader.
- The post-holder will attend toolbox talks, scheduled training, and training to achieve BICSc modules.
- The post-holder will deal politely and professionally with staff, students and visitors and promote a good standard of customer service.
- The post-holder will support and cover for staff in other areas of Property and Campus Services as necessary.

- Participate in performance reviews and developmental activities.

- Exercise a general and legal duty of care regarding health, safety and wellbeing and comply with all health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.

- Full driving licence to drive University vehicles across campus.
Essential Experience / Knowledge:
- Experience of using cleaning chemicals, equipment and cleaning methods.
- Lifting and handling heavy and awkward items.
- Working in a customer‑focused environment with emphasis on providing quality service.
- Using industrial cleaning equipment.
- An understanding of good customer care and quality service.
- An understanding of safe working practices and compliance with health and safety and manual handling practices.
Desirable Experience / Knowledge:
- Ability to communicate through Welsh.
Essential Skills / Abilities:
- Work under own initiative and as part of a team, interacting with people at all levels.
- Solve problems in accordance with procedures.
Other Essential:
- Basic literacy to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in Welsh or English.
- Physically fit to undertake the duties.
