Lecturer in Health Sciences (Advanced Practice) (50% FTE) in Bangor

Job Overview

Applications are invited for a part‑time permanent position within the School of Health Sciences. The successful candidate will commence on 1 September 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The role focuses on delivering healthcare education with emphasis on enhanced, advanced practice and non‑medical prescribing to post‑registration health care practitioners at postgraduate level across blended and distance learning programmes.

Available at Grade 7 or 8 depending on experience and qualifications. The position is on the teaching and scholarship career track, with opportunities to contribute to teaching and learning across the School’s portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Teach with a focus on enhanced, advanced practice and non‑medical prescribing to postgraduate health care practitioners, including supervising students through formative and summative assessments.
• Develop and deliver blended and in‑person teaching methods, materials and assessments.
• Lead the development of modules and support delivery.
• Provide pastoral and academic support to postgraduate students.
• Carry out administrative duties as designated by the Head of School.
• Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, adapting to diverse student backgrounds and learning styles.
• Motivate students and provide constructive feedback.
• Keep up‑to‑date with professional, educational and industry developments.
• Supervise postgraduate projects and act as personal tutor.
• Contribute to new programme development and tender applications.
• Support student recruitment, promotion and external profile of the School.
• Maintain scholarly activities and publish in academic journals.
• Ensure compliance with NMC/HCPC requirements and other professional bodies.
• Engage in strategic and project activities to maximise student engagement and reduce attrition.
• Participate in performance reviews and developmental activities.
• Support health, safety, legal and financial policies and duties of care.

Professional Requirements

Grade 7: Master’s Degree in a relevant subject area, Independent Prescribing Qualification, Professional registration (e.g. NMC, HCPC).

Grade 8 (in addition to the above):

• Professional registration with NMC or HCPC.
• Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or equivalent, or recognised by the HEA as a Fellow against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF.
• PhD, or near completion (applicable for Grade 8).

Essential Experience and Knowledge

• Sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in health and care.
• Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.
• Capability to develop and manage projects and disseminate results at relevant conferences.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
• Computer skills: MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Blackboard and other online platforms.
• For Grade 8: experience of teaching at higher education level, evidence of successful student learning outcomes, innovative pedagogic practice, module development and delivery.

Desirable

• PGCertTHE teaching qualification or equivalent (Grade 7).
• Experience of module development and delivery in higher education (Grade 7 or 8).
• Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
• Capability to publish scholarship in peer‑reviewed journals, conferences, social and other media.
• Ability to communicate in Welsh.

Additional Information

The role will be based on campus at Bangor, with the possibility of flexible remote work within the UK.
