Reporting to the Senior HR Officer (Projects and Business Processes), this permanent, full‑time HR Officer role provides administrative support to specific academic and professional support departments. The role includes first line HR queries, recruitment administration, HR system maintenance, monthly reporting, staff record keeping, and staff support. The position is based on campus at Bangor, with the option to work remotely within the UK as part of the Dynamic Working framework. The incumbent must be able to speak Welsh fluently.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the first line of contact for HR queries for specified schools and departments.
- Recruitment administration: posting job adverts, liaising with agencies, arranging interviews.
- Preparing contracts of employment, requesting references, and processing contract addenda.
- Providing transactional support on generalist HR issues, ensuring confidentiality and clear communication.
- Monitoring HR reports such as fixed‑term workers, probation and work‑to‑work permissions, and acting on arising actions.
- Contributing to the design of HR system changes as required by legislation, policy or process improvements.
- Providing advice and guidance to managers and employees on policy queries and signposting to HR resources.
- Undertaking leaver administration.
- Supporting the HR Officer with arranging meetings.
- Providing support for University Salary Sacrifice Schemes.
- Organising and prioritising workloads to meet internal and external deadlines, including recruitment and payroll.
- Assisting colleagues across the HR Department during workload peaks or staff absence.
- Undertaking other duties as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
- Essential: 2 AS Levels or 1 A Level or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject area.
- Desirable: NVQ Level 4 in an administrative subject area (or equivalent experience) and ECDL Certificate.
Experience and Knowledge
- Essential: Experience with HR/Payroll systems or MHR iTrent.
- Experience in an office/administrative environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Experience providing advice and/or user support.
- Experience with data entry and basic report extraction using complex systems.
- Knowledge of GDPR.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to build effective relationships with colleagues at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to handle a varied workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
