Anglesey Education Workforce Tutor (50% FTE)

Applications are invited for a part‑time post (0.5 FTE) with Learn Welsh – North West, Bangor University. The role will support staff at Holyhead High School in developing Welsh language proficiency and enable them to teach through the medium of Welsh. It is a part‑time position, starting as soon as possible after 18 May 2026 and ending on 31 March 2027. The post holder will be based at Holyhead High School.

Responsibilities

• Assess staff’s initial language levels (if necessary) and track their linguistic progress.
• Provide appropriate Learn Welsh lessons for individuals, small groups and classes in accordance with demand.
• Act as a language mentor, offering advice to teachers and staff on their use of Welsh at work.
• Coordinate a reasonable timetable that allows staff to commit to lessons.
• Complete a Start to Teach Qualification (WJEC Level 4 Certificate for Tutors) if not already held.
• Participate in performance reviews and development activities.

Person Specification

Essential

• A standard degree in any relevant field.
• Excellent educator with substantial teaching experience.
• Experience of advising and supporting learners to use Welsh effectively.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Welsh.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others and as part of a team.
• Ability to work methodically with forward planning and meet deadlines.
• Excellent IT skills for teaching and administration.
• Ability to work independently as required.
• Enthusiasm for the Welsh language.
• Proactive approach to supporting new speakers.

Desirable

• Start to Teach Qualification (WJEC Level 4 Certificate for Welsh tutors) or equivalent experience.
• Experience of working in a school as a teacher.
• Experience of teaching Welsh courses for adults at all levels.
• Experience of teaching Welsh to staff in workplaces.
• Experience of strategic collaboration with workplaces on language training for staff.
• Experience of supporting learners.
• Driving licence and ability to travel to teaching locations within a reasonable distance of home.
