About The Role
This is a strategic leadership role responsible for owning and shaping Games Design as a subject area across our Higher Education provision. You will define the direction of the curriculum, ensure consistently high standards of delivery, and manage the Games Design Lecturers to drive strong student outcomes. This is not a heavy teaching role – the focus is on oversight, quality, structure and continuous improvement while staying close enough to delivery to maintain standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Take full ownership of Games Design as a subject area across HE provision
- Define the vision, structure and long‑term development of the curriculum
- Ensure content aligns with current industry practices, tools and employer expectations
- Implementation of the Assessment and Feedback policies and supporting staff development
- Identify gaps, improvements and opportunities to strengthen the offer
- Oversee module design, assessment strategy and learning materials
- Ensure consistency and quality across all delivery within the subject
- Lead standardisation, moderation and quality assurance activity
- Monitor student performance, retention and feedback, taking action where needed
- Manage and support Games Design Lecturer(s), setting clear expectations and standards
- Review teaching quality and provide coaching and feedback where required
- Ensure delivery is engaging, structured and aligned to agreed outcomes
- Build a high performance culture within the subject area
- Ensure students receive a high quality, industry‑relevant learning experience
- Drive strong academic outcomes, progression and satisfaction
- Support resolution of academic issues and escalates where required
- Work with academic leadership to align the subject with wider HE strategy
- Build links with industry to keep content current and relevant
- Contribute to course reviews, validations and external partner requirements
Requirements
About You
You are comfortable owning a subject area end to end, setting standards and holding others accountable for delivery. You take a structured, practical approach to improving quality and are confident managing academic staff while shaping the bigger picture.
Essential
- Degree in Games Design, Games Development or a closely related discipline
- Strong industry experience within games design, development or a related field
- Experience designing curriculum, modules or training programmes
- Experience managing or mentoring others, formally or informally
- Strong understanding of industry tools (e.g. Unreal Engine, Unity or similar)
- Ability to review and improve quality of teaching and learning
- PG CERT or Fellowship in Higher Education
- C++ experience
Desirable
- Master’s degree in a relevant subject
- Experience within Higher Education or Further Education
- Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one
- Experience working with awarding bodies or academic quality frameworks
